First of all, I want to thanks all of you for helping me in all the topics that I have made in the recent days.. I have learn a lot.

I live in Chile, and here things are a little expensive, so I had decide to go with:
amd 2x 5000+ (2.6ghz) + ECS amd690 chipset + DDR2 MUSHKIN EM2-6400 2GB
but I have seen that intel mobo are very easily to OC, even to get to the 3ghz barrier
so, should I stay with my decision or give a try to a lower intel processor (ex:e2180) and OC?
I looking for performance in games

for the record, C2D is similar to CD in performance?

thanks!

The processor doesn't mean much in games. Either set up will give about the same performance in games with the same Video Card. I would just get the cheapest option between the two, if all you care about are games.

No difference, go for the cheaper option, and invest the remainder in a better video card.

Like everyone else said, spend what you can afford and put most of the money into the video card. Overclocking is not a guarantee, and decent intel motherboards that overclock well are going to be more expensive as well.

Either AMD or Intel will both be fine for gaming as long as you invest in a good power supply and a good Video card.

yah I agree, nice thing about amd is there are some good mbs in the sub 100 dollar range (hell I think you can score a biostar that overclocks will for in the 70s if I remember right), now that the IP35-E has disapeared there isn't a clear budget OC board for the intel side now.

Two comments. A fast AMD chip will push a good video card well enough that your gaming performance will be acceptable and AMD motherboards tend to cost less so you will be able to afford a more powerful GPU (much more impact on gaming performance).

And you should probably consider going with a better motherboard manufacturer if possible, ECS doesn't exactly have a stellar reputation for cranking out top notch boards.

Sounds like you're going to use the onboard video for a little while, right? If that's the case, and iirc, the AMD 690G is one of the best onboard video chips. Otherwise you're going to spend more money on a poor gaming solution in a G35 for intel. On the intel side, though, there is the GeForce 7100 series boards, but I don't remember how they perform.

I'd say AMD. I'd also suggest looking at the Asus M2A-VM HDMI, because, according to Tom's, its Phenom-ready when/if you decide to make the upgrade.

In case you go with Intel, avoid GF71x0 boards like plague. What a pile of crap.

QFT! They don't even support dual channel memory. How can the AMD 7100 series support it, yet the intel cannot?

Isn't Chile extremely hot? AMD and Intel both make good chips, but AMD runs a bit warmer than Intel. In a hot climate, I'd absolutely go with Intel.

Alizee.. i don`t want to use the on board combo video and audio, i know it sucks. The thing that im asking is using a good power supply, a p35 motherboard (not a high end, MSI 7360-010 P35 NEO-F)and a e2160 OC will beat in performance an athlon 5000+ (2.6ghz). I will be using a 8800gt
Amaroque chile ins`t to hot, maybe in summer but is acceptable

just to know..is the intel E4xxx serie as good as the E2xxx for O/C?

thanks everybody

All the E2xxx, E4xxx and E6xxx are fundamentally the same chip, differing by the amount of cache and of course price. For your gaming application, more cache equals better gaming performance. Here's a thread which shows E2xxx and E4xxx Overclocking, keep in mind that this thread will be biased toward higher successful overclocks, people with less success will not post.

BTW, I'll take some of that Chile heat about now, been below zero F, three of the last four nights.

South America

AMD is cool although you can get better performance in games with C2D (up to 30 % I believe), but like everyone else said, the money is best invested in a better video card.

amd is fine...just go for a better video card. thats what matters more. trust me...i have a xeon c2d overclocked to 3.0Ghz and an x2 overclocked to 2.5Ghz. they both feel exactly the same in gaming...but the xeon is faster at number crunching, etc.

I agree buy what YOU want. Intel AMD doesn't matter your the buyer.

Sure would have been nice to this kind of advice back when AMD64 was beating P4 by even smaller performance differance. And gaming test were gosphel at low res. All that changed with C2D . Oh! the hypocrisy of it all.

WTF are you talking about? The A64 kick'd (by a larger margin) the P4's ass for several years!

The point is that C2D would be a wiser purchase rite now. :)
