C2D E8400 $155, plus other CPUs

Was at Microcenter yesterday and they had a big banner up touting "Processors for cheaper than Newegg and Tigerdirect!" I grabbed an E8400 for $155 ($170 at Newegg).

Most of them seem to be in store pickup only.

They also are running a good deal on Antec cases, I got a P182 for $100 ($80 after mail-in rebate). Didn't note prices of other models, but they all seemed to be on sale.

Meh. $155 x 1.07 for sales tax = $166

Versus $170 at NE and no gas money burned it is a wash at best. I suppose the only good thing about MC is that you can try and select an E0 box if you find one.

Sales tax is only 5% here. But yeah, have to take that into account, though there's also shipping from NE.

You are obligated to pay sales taxes on items you buy online/Newegg as well.

So you 1.07 argument is garbage, unless you are advocating breaking the law.

LOL hijumper... sure, we're just gonna pay all that sales tax for online out-of-state purchases. If you do it, you're the only person in the country who does.

I got mine at MC, got to pick the box and make sure it was E0, and it was still a little cheaper than the egg.

And if my family happens to be living at my parents place in PA while my kitchen is being renovated, and I order a $170 processor with free shipping, does your tax argument still hold genius? Move along...

Same here.

Yes, well, most of us don't live in NY or CA (thank goodness...), so that's not really true.

Yes, I do. Go ahead, laugh about it. I don't really think advocating tax evasion as hilarious. I also didn't think advocating illegal activity is in line with what you agreed to by registering/posting here.

Amber, you are wrong. It's not state dependent. Newegg is only obligated to collect the taxes for you if they sell it from a state where they have a shop.

Wow, only your 2nd post here and you come out swinging. And no profile filled out either, great. Geez they let anyone onto AT these days...

Yes, because if I live in Oregon they have to collect sales tax from me even though Oregon doesn't have any 😕

Ah, I didn't get to pick the box, they went in the back and got one for me. Still got one of the E0 ones though.

Oh, I am laughing.

If I remember correctly, the microcenter in NJ only has 3.5% sales tax which was odd to me.

Last time I was there it was 3%, Im not sure exactly why though. I think a lot of the businesses in Paterson have that lower sales tax.

Your profile says you live in NJ. Doesn't newegg charges sales tax in NJ also?

Yes they do. Oi vei -- read the thread in its entirety. FYI, I'm not in the market right now for a new CPU. But if I was in the market, it would be ordered to PA thereby saving on the sales tax, because that's where I'm living for the next 3-4 weeks.

The microcenter in NJ is in an urban economic zone and only charges 3.5% sales tax at the store.

I was there the other day and all of their E8400s are E0.

I already have an E8400 but thanks for the great laugh today hijumper. Perhaps you can offer a hot deal on whatever you're smoking?
