C2d Batch List

I know there is a link that shows all the currently shipped batches of CD2's that also show their OC'ing capabilities. If any of you can provide me with that like that would be great.

1. I don't think there is such a list.
2. Even if you find such a list, getting the specific batch of CPU is like finding the Joe in Manhattan.
3. Even if you find the supposed-to-be a wonder chip, chances are it will disappoint you deeply.

But one thing that I can confirm is that Intel is really binning C2D right now. Not really for C2D, though, but rather for C2Q.

Ooops.. Sorry I misunderstood your post. You've already got a good C2D IMO. As far as the limit of your chip, the only way is to tell is to push it yourself. There are just too many variables and Intel's batch #'s are way too unreliable to predict a chip's OC-ability.

What are your PCI Express Frequency {Mhz) , System Memory Multiplier (SPD), Memory Frequency (Mhz), DDR2 OverVoltage Control, PCI-E OverVoltage Control,
FSB OverVoltage Control, (G)MCH OverVoltage Control and CPU OverVoltage Control in yuor BIOS please for this overclock your getting with your 6420?

they tried to do this at xtremesystems.org, however the results are so spread out, i dont think you can use it as a acruate messurement.

Also, different cooling devices can effect the total overclock. Like on air, my chip would most likely be limited to 3.4ghz on my old E6600, but with water she was able to pull off 3.75

it doesnt have any of the new batches, but if you read the posts, people post them up. However, i wouldnt take this to be very very accurate. Reason is because everyone's overclockign skills/abilities are never the same.

OVERCLOCKING is NEVER PLUG in PLAY. if it was the Asus AI Tuner would actually work.

My new E6400 is L645...that's much newer than the ones listed at xtremesystems...

I'm really curious as to how well it'll overclock. Such suspense!

Still a few days 'till my 8800GTS arrives and I can get this thing up and running.

If I can hit 2.8GHz I'll consider myself a happy man. I don't need 3.6 or anything like that.

As for as i know, i have yet to see 1 C2D that cant do at least 3.0 On a good board/PSU/RAM combo.

Most people that fail 3.0ghz are lacking in one of the above areas.


Make sure you do get good cooling for it. Tuniq Tower, or Ultra120 Extreme are fairly good choices.

If you use the ultra120, you might need to modify the mounting bracket for a more secure mount. A lot of people have had bad temps because the stock mounting on it is very horrible.

OCZ Gold Series Cas latency 5 2x1GB

I have a P5N-E SLi and a 600W OCZ GamerXtream PSU.

my personal favorate is the crucial ballastix PC8500. I use the tracer version which is the same stuff, but it has LED's on the pcb.

Noema, for the overclock you're shooting for, I'd personally recommend any of these sets of RAM: G.Skill PC6400's. With the price on those, you can't lose, and since they're all PC6400, you probably will never get them close to their rated speed, so you don't really need anything that will overclock considerably, RAM-wise.

Well...thread necro!

I just wanted to chime in about my L645 E6400...so far it looks like a decent overclocker. Haven't pushed it hard because I'm still using stock cooler and my P5N-E SLI has no cooling on the SB so that has me a bit
wary of frying something, which I've heard can happen on this board.

So I'm at 2.9GHz...nothing special, really. But what gives me hope and keeps me happy is that I'm at VCore 1.250 Memory is running unlinked at 1.89V @800MHz, with the NB at 1.295V.

Haven't had the time to run Orthos for more than 3 hours though...so I'll keep my fingers crossed and will leave it running all night tonight...the proof is in the pudding. I did have a very long Oblivion session and that went without issues.
