I just got my C2D stuff today and was instilling the CPU and heatsink/fan. The CPU installed fine but the heatsink/fan gave me a bit of an issue. Nothing major but I ended up taking the heatsink off of the CPU after it had already been on it once. It had just touched it, spearing the grease a little. I then put it back on and clamped it down. My question is will it be ok or should I have wiped off the grease first? I didn't have any other thermal grease to use. Thanks.

Well if you don't have a choice then you don't have a choice ;). To be honest I don't think it'll make that much of a difference provided nothing else touched the HSF and CPU heat spreader until their were put back together.

Nope, I made sure nothing touched either of the two. I've had it running for about 30 minutes now formating the new drive and installing windows, nothing too strenuous but I can touch the heatsink and its no even the slight bit warm yet.

you should be fine, same thing happened to me on my first 775 build, those stock heat sinks are a bitch to get in the first time

Yeah tell me about it. I snapped them all in the first time or so I thought. I realized one was loose then saw 2 were actually loose, I guess I didn't press down hard enough, was babying it too much. So I thought best to start over.

Anyway, so far so good with it, nothing seem out of the ordinary with temps or anything so I think I should be good to go.
