Hey, im looking to purchase a celeron2 800mhz cpu, and im trying to locate some other peoples clock speeds and what they have achieved, so i know abouts what i can achieve. Any details or help on this cpu would be greatly appriciated.
Info such as motherboard best to use and extra cooling methods.

Thankyou.

IMHO, you should pick a cheaper, celeron II. Reason being, that the celeron 800 has 12X multiplier. That's kinda high, and it would be better to use a "lowerend" and get a 566 or 600 celeron and OC it to 850 or 900. With the 566 many people have gotten 952 (with 112 bus) fairly easily. So, I think you should buy the cheaper celeron and overclock that, since it has a lower multiplier, and would be easier to OC.

Nah, the 800mhz celeronII uses 100mhz bus (first celery with 100mhz fsb) and that would use a 8x multiplier. ?? would it not. Then i could get about a ghz out of it or something, hopefully.

Im really after some advice also, so far i see the asus mobo as the best one, but it seems a little old? (the asus CUSL2 I815E) Anyones help on this issue would be appriciated.

Thanks

Yeah, it does use a 8x multiplier.

But I have yet to hear of any overclocking stories.

Why get a C2 800 when for the same price or less (Pricewatch) you can get a PIII 700 and overclock it. The PIII is a better investment anyway--IMHO.

Check at overclockers.com CPU database for overclocking success. No listing for C2 800 yet.

That's right. Absolutely NOBODY should be purchasing a Celeron 800mhz. Why buy that when you can get a PIII for the same price?

Yeah, get spend the extra few bucks and get the P3-700E. Great chip, got one myself at 903 stock voltage. And the extra cache on the p3 will help.

Thanks your advice has helped me come to the desicion of a PIII, i think 1000mhz looks the go, as a few extra hundred (AUD) bucks has found me. Any objections to that ?:)
