I saw one a futureshop and since my friend is on a budget hows the card compared to a soundblaster live value. He will be upgrading his POS via ac'97 (think thats what it is) or how is the cards from hercules.

the c-media cards are perfectly fine for games and casual music listening. i used to have one, and it was a hell of a lot more trouble free than my current audigy.

In general, C-Media cards are dirt-cheap and work fine - all in all an excellent value. I agree with the previous poster, they are usually just fine for casual listening and gaming.

The C-media cards are excellent value. The WDM drivers are the most fully featured, supporting Sensaura 3d. This will give EAX1,2, A3d, Multi-drive, ZoomFX, MacroFX as well as virtual 5.1 channel sound. The VXD drivers have EAX1 support and MacroFX AFAIK. C-media even provides drivers for BeOS and Linux!

Most have the ability to accept a daughterboard that will allow for coax and optical SPDIF in/out, not sure about the Hercules one though.

Cheers

I've both the old Herc 4.1 Muse XL and their newer "DVD" 5.1 Muse XL. They're not bad cards at all. Naturally, they don't compare to either my Santa Cruz or Audigy, but for $20 retail, they offer a lot of bang for the buck. I'd definitely recommend them for the casual gamer or music listener.

I love it, specially the one w/ 6 channel support and Digital out.

Acutally I have extra retail one w/ Digital out daughter card + fiber optic cable. PM me, if you interested.

oops..this is not a sale forum. ;)
