Damn! Too many games, too little time, too little hard drive space.

I'll have to check this one out when there's some other links for it. I've been waiting for this one, hope its good!

Furor: Thanks for the link!!!:D

Fileplanet's SHORTEST line was 183 minutes (~1400+ people), but your page allowed me to hit all four servers with GetRight and it took only 7:52!!! w00t!!!

An official fix has been posted:

1. First, launch the "Renegade Multiplayer Demo" icon found on your desktop.
2. Once the main menu screen appears click on "Multplay Internet."
3. Next, you will see a "GameSpy" option highlighted, click on it.
4. Now click on the "Options" button.
5. Click in the box that says "Connection," select the speed at which you use to access the internet.
6. Once this is complete, the connection option will be saved.

I've got to believe that most people here have tried this already, but an FYI for those who didn't.

Lol, thats supposed to be an official fix? Well, the game has taken a step backwards in the world of games. Its not that great, and it has terrible lag. But it is westwoods first fps, and who knows the sp might be fun.

The game's producer posted something that was then quoted over at VE about the lag:

I wanted to get on and update you on the issues related to the demo. The problems are not with the game, they are with the upstream bandwidth of many of the impromptu servers. We did not properly constrain who could set up a server so immediately there were over a hundred servers that did not meet bandwidth requirements and this provided an unacceptable gaming experience. We are currently working on a patch that will autodetect whether you can host a game and also tell you the max number of people we recommend for your game. Each host will be required to be a dedicated server as well.

We worked late into the night to get this corrected and expect to have a new demo and a patch up today. Be assured that the problem is not in the network code or in the game, we simply did not set enough limits in reqards to who could host the game. I apologize for any problems or issues this may have caused.

In addition we are going to set up some more servers on site that meet bandwidth requirements.

So, it looks like the kiddies setting up 128-player games on their Gameboys connected thru AOL are the culprits.

edit

I got one pretty good, not badly lagged game in. This game kicks ass once you find a fast server but again I only played ONE out of countless tries.

Does anyone have a T1 or faster? We could have an AT Renegade server tonight or something.

Yes, I can concur. Fast server = tons of fun.

I hate using Gamespy Arcade for a server browser though. Hope they fix that in a patch, otherwise I will NOT be buying this game.

The run speed seems very slow as well, maybe I'm just used to other FPS games, but damn if it doesn't seem like I'm walking.

Otherwise, it's fun as hell.

I get horrible clipping problems(objects like the gun become invisible/visible every .5 seconds)

the PCGAMERUK review of it was pretty bad, 48%,(apparently the clipping terrible) i'll have to wait to get the demo before i judge, i think they review the single player, not multi (which is always fun) though

I haven't been able to get it to start yet.
But I wasn't that eager to play it anyways.

Well I got it to work, in Windowed mode. :( My Voodoo5 is clipping like mad making it extremely difficult to tell where you are and revealing things way across the map. It looks like it will be a great game though.

Well, I just spent a good part of the day unable to play Renegade due to Gamespy being a total piece of shít. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, got the latest version, only to find that for some reason, the renegade rooms crash it. When I have been able to get in the games, the "rubber band" lag is so bad, it's unplayable. I really hope this patch that promises to keep idiots from running servers on their walkmans fixes things, because it is a fun game.

And like I said before, no in game browser, I won't be buying it. I hope westwood hears this. It just shows a certain amount of laziness from a developer when they won't put the extra work into an in game browser...
