It's fun for a while, but the game gets boring in a week. (mulitplayer) ONly the first stage in single is ok. THey will have flying units next week, hopefully that will add life.
 
it sucks if you have a voodoo based card...i have a voodoo 5500 and i can't play it. will have to buy a radeon 8500 or something
 
For $30 (and a free TibSun to boot.. well, $0.01 since the cashier didn't know how to punch in a no cost item), couldn't hurt too much to check out what Westwood's cooked up for their first FPS. "Limited quantities" my bum... my compUSA had four shelves, 3 ft wide and five units deep of the small boxes! 😉

Whats wrong? The demo is working perfectly fine on a V3. Download 3rd party drivers and see if those work.

I had my sister pick up my copy and I noticed they charged me a penny, too...thats false advertising, it said free! Anybody want to join me in a lawsuit? 😉

Even hotter deal - the Feb. 2002 issue of PC Gamer Magazine, around page 29, has a coupon for 20% off any PC game 29.99 and up - have BB PM CompUSA and HOPEFULLY (depending on whether the clerk decides to be a nice person or not), you should be able to not only get it PMed, but get the 110% difference PLUS the 20% off.

The SAFER way to do it, however, would be to go to Circuit City. They've taken competitors' coupons from me a bunch of times. Plus they might be nice enough to include the "5 bucks off 1 PC game" promo they're running this week. I never thought I'd say this, but CC has actually kinda shaped up to be a respectable establishment...just so long as their not screwing you with the bait and switch.

Personally - I liked and disliked the game. I think that it's a great idea and I'm surprised no one has tried to mod it on games before. I mean - w/Tribes 2, it DEFINITELY could have been done.

Westwood seems committed to making this game a hit. I remember talking with a lot of gaming buddies about how even though piloting ground vehicles kicked ass, the real fun would be piloting Orcas and NOD attack choppers. Well, two days later, Westwood announces that they're gonna make that a reality with a patch that's going to be released "a few weeks from now."

Single-player-wise, the game is pretty lopsided - the weapons need DEFINITE tweaking. I mean, playing NOD in multi, if you successfully are able to plant a nuclear beacon in a GDI base (no easy task) it better be in the middle of the inside of the building, or the "25 megaton" blast, that's supposed to "wipe out everything in a 10 mile radius" won't do jack. The "Personal Ion Cannon" is also basically useless in the fact that it only works well against infantry - but has a wickedly long refire rate - and you'd think something with even 1/100th the power of a satellite ION shot would damage a tank pretty well...nope - barely scratches the surface.

And the multi...OH the multi. If you've played any of the Tribes games, you'll be right at home. When you buy a vehicle, you'd damn well better get in it quickly, because some jackass WILL steal it without hesitation. Secondly, if you get on a team that plays the game like a deathmatch in the GDI vs. NOD mode, you will curse God, because this game is excruciatingly frustrating when you play with a team with no sense of, well, TEAMWORK. Lord knows how much hair I lost when I saw tanks mindlessly shooting infantry instead of a assaulting a base. There is no real way to describe the folly in seeing 5 mammoth tanks, 3 medium tanks, 1 MLRS and 2 Hummers just outside the NOD base for fear of the obelisk they could destroy in about 15 seconds if they just advanced. This game does not suffer fools gladly in multiplayer - and if you're looking for a boom and zoom game - stick to Wolf and Q3:TA.

Bottom line: if you're a fan of C&C - this game is an enjoyable way to spend 29.99, and if you have the BB coupon, 24.99. Tiberian Sun was pretty crappy - but for .01 or free, you can't beat the price. I've seen far more "dedicated" companies screw up FPSes, but Westwood did a damned good job on their first. My only gripe - they shoulda used the Q3:TA engine - because it coulda been prettier.

Q3 Engine wouldn't of allowed that much freedom w/ vehicles, esp the orcas and the chinhooks
 
I picked up mine. I did not see the free game online but it was listed in the store and in the store ad. The funny thing is they had lots of Tiberian Sun but all of the boxes were already opened. Wonder what they were doing with them. Sort of doubt it was frisbee. Nice find and post. Good luck. btw, the strategy guide was 17.99.

If the personal Ion cannon were any stronger ther'd be no point in using vehicles...and Ive taken out MANY tanks with it all by myself.
About vehicle theft, what server do you play on...Ive never had anyone steal any of my vehicles, and it actually isnt even possible; the vehicle is reserved for you until you get in it the first time. Everyone I have played with has been respectful of other people's property, they dont just hop in if they see you repairing your tank.
I will admit that I have stolen a vehicle, but it was because some moron parked his flame tank right in front of the GDI base...I didnt feel like getting my ass cooked later.
 
I have a P4 1.6 GHZ with 512MB Ram and it takes a good while to install. It takes like a gig of hard drive space as well. I would call this the .net of games as far as the installation is concerned. I have not installed it on my P3 but I doubt it would be any faster, lol. Good luck folks.

Pretty crappy. The graphics are second to none in the lame department for one thing. With this game it seems some people love it and others hate it. I hear that some places have given it a 9/10, and others like a 35%. Download the demo and see if it's your pot of tea.

It's reserved for only a short period of time. I don't know the exact amount of time though. I bought a vehicle before and waited like 2 min to get in it, when I was heading to get in, someone took it.
 
Ahh, I see...I suppose that was done to keep the war factory from getting clogged with vehicles 🙂
Perhaps WW should give the original purchaser an override button that kicks everyone out of their vehicle...
