Is it fun multiplayer btw? Played it single player, and there you quickly find winning strategies.

Russians (Edit: They may be dressed up as Chinese , but they are in fact Russians!) rule single with heaviest tanks + machine gun tanks, US has air superiority and snipers, GLA has those rocket buggies with such a large range that turrets wont be able to hit back, and for the rest not much at all

I just tried it yesterday for the first time in multiplayer

China has absolutely the most firepower, the GLA or whatever they are called can mostly be called anoying when fighting against them, the usa team is rather medicore though they have some very good units.

One map went like this
We were three against three computer players, but we forgot to pick teams so it ended up being just free for all. I was china and my two friends were gla. One battle me with about 8 of my biggest tangs along with two artilery units went into one of the bases, nuked it first to soften them up a bit and then cleared good part of the base up before leaving because I didnt want to end it so quickly. I just planted all my units in front of both of their bases, a little away though so he could build up again. Then just for fun I started deploying mine fields in my other friends base. When I had about 30 of the biggest units in the area, the guy I attacked first came back with what I thought first was a huge army of tanks and whatnots, I lost two or three tanks in that battle while he lost everything. But meanwhile my other friend the sneaky little bastard managed to get two terrorist inside my base and they blew up nearly all my money making hackers so I had to build them all over again.
Now there was only me, one friend and one of the computer players left, the computer had been been busy fighting one another when all this went on.
In the next big battle my friend finaly found a back way into my base and had a huge army coming for me, so I nuked thew whole army while they were inside my base, a few buildings damaged, lost maybe one, not much. What took me down was that the computer player started to show interested and nuked the base only 5 seconds later!
After this I just stopped playing with them and basicly ran over their bases with ease.

in the end, GLA has NOTHING in the Chinese

Ndee, I'm going to sleep right now, but I love this game and in the future I'd like to join up for a game.

At work right now, so I can't even try to connect.
What were you thinking of btw, PvP or player team vs computer team?

How are the general levels done in multiplayer? Do you start with them or do you have to earn them? Starting with mines would rock :p

The sides are very well balanced for multiplayer (they keep a tally of wins, and the #s were approx 1/3rd, 1/3rd, 1/3rd last time I checked).

China is the most natural playstyle to fall into for someone used to traditional RTS games, but once you get the hang of US and GLA strategies, they definitely hold their own. I still have problems with GLA because of the micro involved, but I've seen a friend of mine defend himself against brutal opponents for the first three minutes with just 3 technicals and a tunnel network (hint - actively pursue upgrade parts for GLA units that can do the salvage upgrade).

Unfortunately Generals' networking code is a little sloppy (esp. compared to Blizzard games), and I'm behind a router and not able to configure my computer to be the DMZ computer (someone else has the DMZ). I've had some great LAN games with friends though, and co-op comp stomps against multiple brutals can be fun too.

Oh, and you start with 1 general point. When both players turtle (yes, I'm a noob and my friends are noobs too), the general points come very slowly.

Why not? If someone wants it, they can find it.

I've done it before. Some guy on a forum tried telling me that it couldn't be done, I emailed him and said "yes you can", he emailed me back saying "no" and I got him. Or you can IM them, they can IM you back and you can get their IP with a utility.

Back in the Win95/98 days it was easy for me to get onto someone's system. NT/2000/XP is much, much harder. I'm sure someone can break in, but I'm not elite like that.
