C&C 3 vs. Supreme Commander

I know I'll want both of these games, but I'll only be able to afford one.

Which looks better to you guys?

I prefered TA over C&C due to the commander unit, therefore I'm thinking I'll like Supreme Commander more than C&C 3.

Thoughts?

Supreme Commander looks better, but I think C&C3 may have the better storyline. TA didn't really have a story, and the Core/Arm campaigns were mirror images of each other. Course, Tiberian Sun also had some of the shittest acting I've seen outside Uwe Bol films.

C&C3 all the way! Its going back to basics, so if your the average c&c fan you werent too impressed with tiberian sun, great! Because C&C3 has far more in common with the original C&C than it does with tiberian sun. In fact ill make a list of the good things about C&C3:

1. More like original c&c than tiberian sun

2. Three sides! 😎 GDI-NOD-ALIENS (Scrin probably)

3. Tiberian sun wasent so good.. ok.. but the story was great, C&C3 continues this, you will find out what happened to CABAL and the ending video where kane and CABAL seem to be one person should be explained

4. Kane is in it, thats Joe Kucan, the proper original kane, not some lookalike

5. Uses a more up to date version of SAGE, the generals game engine. Genrals sucked
but noone can deny the graphics and gameplay were pretty sweet, although not c&c-like. So theyve had a lot of time to improve the engine and eradicate any flaws with it.

6. Michael Ironside will be in it, along with other well known actors, such as Billy dee williams and Grace Park and Tricia Helfer

7. Theyve ditched those crappy mechs for the most part, good old 4-tracked mammoth is back, it has a railgun upgrade too!

8. The people they sent to test the game came back with postive opinionsRead this I havent had time to read the entire thing but hexetics one of the guys that got sent along to test it.

9. MCV's are back, i laughed when i read this from the above article "Oh yeah, and the Nod MCV walks on legs. It's pretty friggin' hilarious, especially when you pack up your Con Yard and try to scuttle away from that mass of tanks that's overrunning your base. That's what happened in the opening match on the big screen on Day One."

C&C3. Don't know Supreme Commander, don't care. I enjoy C&C games since the original. Just got done playing some Zero Hour in fact. I have no reason to choose the other over this.

starcraft 2 😉

was never a big fan of the C&C gameplay style, and i tried the supreme commander beta... didnt like it too much either (but im sure both have insane potential)

Great post, Soviet.

I'm still somehow more excited about supreme commander. The graphics look nicer, and the commander units look incredible.

I might just have to buy both. 🙂

Do you guys know what the system requirements will be like? I have an X800Pro and an Athlon XP 3200+ with a gig of RAM.

I've been Beta Testing Supreme Commander since a few months already, and I must say that it'll be one heck of a nice game. The games have the potentially to literally last hours (even against humans on-line willing to spend enough time not to rush anything in the game and turtle their way to huge armies and bases for a final long-lasting and constant confrontation until everyone dips into the minus thousands resources rate).

But there is a down side to it all. It sometimes feel quite generic and nothing very special other than the sheer scale and size of units and especially the maps themselves. It does involve strategy depending on the maps and players, but usually the first to strike hard enough at a good enough location will end up victorious. It ain't much different then the "old" way of playing RTS's, compared to the C&C series for example, it's not a revolution, but it does provide some evolution.

Overall I think Supreme Commander will be great. A good enough game to buy and play now and then, but I won't find myself burning days and days in a row just to play it. It just ain't addictive enough, at least not for me.

On the other hand though, C&C 3 is exactly my type of RTS, I can hardly wait to see it in action and play it.

Even if the new Command & Conquer is better than all the others, it still wont likely be as good as either of the Total Annihilation's and their expansion packs.
And Supreme Commander is already looking to be better than those two.

Look at these pictures and judge wisely.

1. Nod battleship WOW!

2. Back to the mammoth tank, but with a difference!

3. Yea TA is allright i guess, but it dont have the bald guy does it 😛

Hell theres even a change in attitude with some of the die-hard we hate everything that isnt tiberian sun type fans. Some of them at planetcnc are saying nice things about c&c3.

@sickbeast, the system requirements will be similar to Battle for middle earth II. I would imagine your system will be fine on medium/high settings with c&c 3 at a reasonable resolution. BFMEII sys requirements

I'm concerned about Supreme Commander's experimental gameplay. It seems too large and overwhelming to be fun and engaging. C&C uses tried and true gameplay which I like.

Yes, Joe Kucan > *

SC without a question. Been in the beta for awhile and it is great. Closes thing to a new Total Annihlation as well.
C&C3 looks good but I am very hesitant on it cause it seems to be heavly influence by Generals which imo was meh

Exactly why I'm looking forward to SupCom and haven't given half a rats ass about C&C since... um... Red Alert. I want something new and different. StarCraft and TA both broke the mold in different ways... and IMHO they were the last two truly worthwhile RTSs. No RTS has ever given me a rush like TA was able to, and I'm hoping that SupCom can at least do that. God I hope they have an epic orchestral score just like TA. That sh1t was fantastic. Regardless, I don't have the horsepower to run either one. Once I do I'll pick them both up though I'm sure.

Edit: I take back what I said about StarCraft and TA being the last two worthwhile RTSs. Dawn of War and Company of Heroes both kick insane amounts of ass. And while they probably will never achieve the status that SC and TA hold, they're both very good games.

C&C3 is a throwback to the start of an era, one that has advanced long ways since then. It will be fun to play, the SP campaign will most likely be enjoyable, but MP will probably be a been there, done that experience.

Supreme Commander on the other hand, is building on an RTS that has very little competition in it's own little corner of the genre. Total Annihilation brought about massive warfare and while the SP most likely won't be much to write home about, the MP should be top notch.

Lucky for me, I'll get both. But if I had to pick, I'd pick Supreme Commander. I have faith in the group creating it, more so than any ressurected C&C team.

I'll play you Allies vs. Soviets. You can be the Soviets. 😉

I *still* play Total Annihilation from time to time. Judging from the video clips, beta tester remarks, and screenshots, Supreme Commander looks to be one heck of a "spiritual successor". I'm a fan of the whole C&C series, having owned several and played all of the C&C games, but Supreme Commander just looks like it's going to be a crazy-good RTS experience.

I like and will buy both, but am more excited about Supreme Commander. I'm a bigger fan of the Total Annihilation gameplay style than either the big RTS franchises (*Craft, C&C). TA was extremely innovative and still has features I liked that modern RTS's lack, so I hope SC will continue in that vein.

Likely C&C will have a better story, but their track history and "back to the original" philosophy makes me think there's not going to be a lot of innovation there.

I can't decide so I'm going to probably end up buying both 🙂 May even stop playing wow, or play wow till both games become cheaper.

I think C&C3 looks better than SupCom, but still not as good as Company of Heroes.

Of four friends I know were in on the SupCom beta three went back to CoH. FWIW The best/most hard core player stuck likes SupCom's game play more.
