Byte claiming all single-processor AMD chipsets unstable

That's so utterly and pathetically untrue that I even question the need for a bandwidth-wasting thread such as this. 😉

Byte.com has been writing crap for a long time, this is no surprise...

686B bug, PCI Latency issues, USB renumeration problems, etc.

For some things VIA boards work great. For others, they can be a nightmare of little issues that never quite get sorted out. Though VIA has supposedly issued fixes for the above problems, they don't always work in every case. My system is now about 95% stable, but some things, like video production/encoding of multi-gigabyte files can send it into a spin.

His remark was sweeping and generalized, but not entirely incorrect. There are more pampering issues to deal with for VIA chipsets. Just look around here for how many little problems people have that are just flakiness issues.

But how could he possibly leave out:

AMD
ALI
NVIDIA

AMD chipsets being buggy and unstable? That's the first I've heard of it (early AMD750's not withstanding).
 
AMD, SiS, nVidia, and ALi all make perfectly good and stable chipsets. These companies' chipsets have the same level of mainboard support as Intel's chipsets do. Even VIA makes some very good chipsets, as is proven by the KT266A and KT333.

The whole argument that "AMD is unstable" is ludicrious. Has been for quite some time.

Of course, I do completely agree that he should have provided some examples of issues with the single processor boards/chipsets rather than just making a blanket statement concerning them.
 
guy that wrote that article is an idiot. The 761 chipset has been just as stable as any intel chipset I've ever owned.

NFS4 doesnt want the tea, just the ice...possibly to get nicole to give him a titty piercing 🙂
