Any of you dissapointed to see that the Duron name and processors are going to be phased out. Since Athlon will become the value segment I wonder if they will come up with a new name for the performance segment(Hammer).

Intel's Celeron will have to compete with the Athlon Tbird or XP! I know the new Celeron will be a Northword with less cache but, IMHO, it will get blown out of the water by the Athlon XP.

I sense Intel is going to have a big load of presure in the near future, if the Hammer fails to run cool that will REALLY hurt AMD.

How do you define "running cool"? And compared to what? Northwood @ 3GHz? How cool will that run?

ClawHammer's heat spreader and SOI will certainly help. Btw, did you hear Jerry Sanders say that AMD would have mobile .09-micron ClawHammers by the summer of 2003? That's earlier than I thought...

last i heard the new celerons were going to be williamette based because it costs intel $$$ to move over to .13, so its more cost effective for the first gen of 786 celerons to be .18.

Cool as in not a space heater..., I think the fact that processors are running as hot as they are now is dissapointing. It's pretty much impossible to have a high performance system run as silent as, say, a celeron 566 system would, wich is practicly in-audible. Even video card coolers are getting noisy.

That is a bit odd since their roadmap still shows Duron lasting until the second half of 2003 and if the market requires into the first half of 2004 (see the arrow pointing out of the 2H03 section). Since so many people like cheap processors and since lots of people are satisfied with ~1 GHz performance, I really think the market might force Duron into 2004. But we will see.
