No one probably knows what the "Trump stamp of approval" iOwa republican governor Kim Reynolds is up to with public education. Maybe no one cares, but this is what most far-right extremist republicans have wanted for a long long time. This, and the demise of medicare and social security. iOwa gov Reynolds, best knows as covid Kim, wants to take taxpayer money away from public education and give that taxpayer money directly to families to send their kids to private schools. Diverting money meant from public education schools to private education schools. And the really weird thing here is, what is Reynolds getting out of this??? I ask only because Reynolds has been pushing this agenda for years, having lost all of her the past attempts, but this time she just might do it. This time, considering iOwa is now 100% a totally red state. Sadly, the state that once voted for Obama... twice.

Reynolds

She acts like this is such a good deal for everyone, however the public schools are fuming along with parents that support public education. But Reynolds doesn't give a damn about what the majority wants, what republican ever does? Because now she has the republican super majority in the state house and in the state senate so she can do whatever she wants. The last time she messed with a valuable public service was along with her predecessor republican governor Terry Branstad (Terry Braindead). They fought against Obamacare and successfully privatized medicaid in iOwa. Totally destroyed the medicaid program for thousands of iOwans, seniors, the poor, the disabled, and iOwans are still suffering from poor medical options, restrictive costs, extremely long waits for medical treatment procedures, and plus a lot of people are dying. Now, Reynolds is hell bent on going after public education. Should Donald Trump become president in 2024, guess who Trump will appoint Secretary of Education?

And so.... Reynolds wants to give $7598 taken from public education and hand that taxpayer money over to parents to pay for their kids private education. Yes, that's $7598 tax payer dollars. But wait a second, lets play this out. Private education schools will no doubt welcome this windfall of tax payer money coming their way, and they will want more.... much more. Once that spigot is turned on there will be no end nor no limit to it. Next year, Reynolds will be back in front of congress insisting $7598 is not enough, and the private schools will raise their fees as well by double or triple, so Reynolds will insist the iOwa congress increase those funds from $7598 to $14,598. Or to $16,598. And on and on it will go. Eventually, the goal achieved. Public education starved to death, and taxpayers paying endlessly thru the nose to fund the greed of private education. And it will indeed become all about "the greed". Private education soaking up those taxpayer funds. Slurp slurp.

Just thought people should know. Should know what to expect in their republican controlled statehouse.

HERE YA GO, THE NASTY DETAILS....

The plan would give any Iowa student, regardless of income, $7,598 a year in an Education Savings Account if they switch from public to private school.

The governor has proposed similar bills in the last two sessions, though both were much narrower than her current proposal. Both plans were unable to secure enough support.

"There is no requirement that private schools take students with disabilities. Schools get to determine literally any criteria they'd like,"

"If a student wants to go to a school and isn't Christian and it's a Christian school, that school is not required to accept that student. These taxpayer dollars are going to schools that get to pick and choose which students they have."

And an interesting little tidbit....

The House version of the governor's 'school choice' plan is exempt from the traditional budgetary process requiring consideration in the House Appropriations or Ways and Means Committees. House Republicans made that change earlier this week.

I like it. I have thousands of frozen babies in my freezer I need to educate when they thaw.

I can see Betsy DeVos jumping up and down with ecstasy over this. Side benefit for the Repubs is taking children over to the private sector side takes the kids away from the federal requirements shield that public schools are regulated by thus giving the conservatives much more room to indoctrinate the children into believing that the Civil War was not about slavery, being racist and discriminatory against "those liberal socialist commies" is not only being patriotic, it's just the natural thing to do".

Another Iowa right wing priority here:

Some of the proposed restrictions mean that low-income, older, and disabled Iowans who rely on SNAP benefits would not be able to purchase items like fresh meat, white bread, or sliced cheese.

The bill dictates that people can only purchase 100% whole wheat bread, brown rice and 100% whole wheat pasta — no white grains allowed.

Also on the "do not buy list" are baked, refried or chili beans. Instead, recipients must purchase black, red, and pinto beans. Cooking oil, spices, and salt and pepper would have to be crossed off the shopping list, along with soup, and canned vegetables and fruit.

Fresh meats are off the table, as Iowans would only be able to purchase canned products like canned tuna or salmon. Sliced, cubed, crumbled, and American cheese would also be eliminated from SNAP food purchases.

Can't buy bread.. like WHAT THE FUCK?

It's going to be the Democrat's fault no matter what. It's just how Repubs operate because their voters have been conditioned into reacting to those trigger words their leadership keep conjuring up to keep their pawns lit up with hate and fear. Their leaders can't promise them what the Democrats have been offering so it's all about distracting from that fact, pointing fingers, finding scapegoats to hang their dirty deeds on and lie and cheat their way to election wins the good 'ol Conservative way of doing things.

No Cooking oil,

WTF That bill is in a couple of threads and the proposed restrictions are as dumb as they are deliberately cruel. I look forward to the how to guides to render fat from shitty canned meats if you're on SNAP in Iowa.

Thanks for adding that. And just as outrageous as the school thing.
Funny... I was talking to my nephew up in Michigan and he blames, and rightly so, he blames the voters for continuing to re-elect this person as governor. Then he added, "I heard that she had mental issue as a young adult", and I thought THATS IT!!!! That explains everything.

I never mentioned that after Reynolds was re-elected back in November, the very next day she turned down 30 million in aid for pre-school. Aid for low income to afford to send the child to daycare while the parent worked. Reynolds turned down 30 million in federal assistance BECAUSE... it required the state to match those fund by 10 percent, BY TEN PERCENT, and Reynolds refused the 30 mill because she did not want to do the 10 percent matching part.

And people were fuming over that one as well, especially taking place only a day after Reynolds had been re-elected.
But my comeback is, you can't blame Reynolds, you really must blame the voters, those F-ing iOwa farmers who keep voting her back into office. And keep voting Chuck Grassley back into the US senate. The way I see it, Reynolds as well as Donald Trump are the consequence of the voters. In the end I place all the blame on the voters. Idiots they may be... it's all their fault. They are the enablers of all this BS.

Those voters cast their ballots with the ignorance and idiocy their conservative leaders dumbed them down with. All they need to know is if there's an "R" in front or back of the names of the candidates and they're good to go.

It's a circle of illogical repetition that they're now locked into brought to us by the folks who stand to gain from all of their efforts to keep their voters uninformed and exclusively dependent on the propaganda they're pumping into their party's members minds on a daily/hourly basis. Their members have been told to distrust every other media source other than those approved by their political leadership. If that's not an effort to condition their members to accept being ruled by a dictator than I don't know what is.

Even a relatively healthy human has about 50lbs of fat on them, and those things are everywhere. They should just start eating them.

Just gonna say here that a lot of companies that have gone after lower cost labor in red states with poor quality public education systems have quickly found their training costs skyrocket.
That's why in Arkansas Sarah Manatee Sanders removed age restrictions on child labor
