try men's wearhouse or Macy's. they have decent suits in the low 200s when on sale.

Navy, charcoal, dark brown or black. Can never go wrong with navy and charcoal.

Spidey07, I'm very sorry to hear you bought pleated pants, but please, don't try and pass off your misfortune as advice.

Pleated pants look great if you're 100 lbs over-weight.

Hey dumbass. You're talking out your ass again.

My suit pants are pleated and they look very stylish and professional too. They're also $800-1000 suits. Hugo Boss. Ever heard of it?

Pleated (single or double) are just fine, depending on your preference. Flat fronts only came back in style a few years ago. Prior to that, it was considered grandpa-style.

Cuffed pants give it a more professional appearance and should be used when buying suits.

men's suit warehouse and get a black, blue, and a black with light stripped suit. if you are lucky, your business school at your university might have a deal with men's suit warehouse and you can get 10% off.

i prefer three button suits but that's just IMO

My suggestions:

- Charcoal gray, navy blue, and olive
- Three button single-breasted. (Remember to button the middle button or middle+top buttons only).
- Flat front, uncuffed pants
- White and light blue dress shirts work with any color suit.
- Solid or striped ties
- Black, lace-up wingtip shoes

I think most off the rack suits come with pants that are pleated. I think with a suit maker's store, you can pick either pleated vs. nonpleated.

One benefit of pleated pants is it helps retain the vertical line of the pants (the crease running all the way down.)

The cuff also creates some weight and also helps retain the crease.

If you're short, skip the cuffs, otherwise cuffs are in, and really should be there for a pair of pants that come with a suit.

not reading the thread. just saying i interned in congress for 9 months, you NEVER wore a suit to work. slacks, dress shirt & tie. $50 total at ross, tj maxx, marshalls, maybe a little more at nordstrom rack. $300 there will get you 10 days of never wearing the same thing twice, if you plan it right.

edit: i attended many house & senate hearings. trust me, no suit necessary unless you're testifying.

The business and professional world doesnt give jack sh!t about fashion. The only people wearing highend suits are those trying to be trendy.

HAHAHA. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You're judged every second of every day based on your appearance. If you disagree with me, you're straight up an idiot.

I'm not advocating $800 suits for the OP, I was simply offering my two cents. There's a big difference between trendy and quality. $200 is not quality, dipshit.

CORRECT! If somebody shows up looking like a complete moron, people will judge him and think he is incompetent. Dressing up, or at least knowing how to dress not only shows that you care, but demonstrates you aren't a complete moron or typical young idiot. With regards to the budget, you're certainly not getting Canali, Boss, or Kiton. Like someone said in this thread, head out to Sym's and get a good brand name suit-I've seen some nice Hickey Freeman for $300 there.

Yes you are judged on appearance, but they dont give a sh!t if you are wearing high end suits. You can look good without forking over alot of money. The VAST VAST majority of those end the business world do not wear expensive suits. Nor do they wear cheap ones.

You called $400 a "budget" suit dipshit. Its the norm. Most business professionals wear $400-500 suits. Not $800+ ones.

Even if you have a decent suit, wearing a sh!tty tie and shirt combo will look horrendous, as well as most people simply don't know how to properly tie a tie.

Yeah, thrift stores actually aren't that bad for suits, assuming you know how to shop. It will not be ideal, it will not be the best, but price wise you can't go wrong.
