Hey there..

I go to college in Boston ( Northeastern University ) and was looking to move off campus. Dad wanted to buy a property for investment that would also be close to the campus. What aresome of the areas you guys recommend I look at which would ensure that it would appreciate and be close to my campus? I was thinking of Mission Hill/Fenway/Back Bay but i've heard bad things about Mission hill.. ( my dad's budget is around 500-600 k )..

Also, is now a good time to buy or do you guys think we should wait some more?

Thanks

The area around Northeastern is pretty ghetto. For $500-600k, don't expect anything more than a condo in Back Bay or the Fenway. If he's looking for a multi-family, I would look in Jamaica Plain.

Longwood area is great but didn't know that residential apartments are available for sale there. I thought it was mostly commercial property.

I trouble him enough. Don't think he wants more.. lol

You should buy that old Hardware Outlet building on High street downtown! It's not much to look at, but think about how much foot traffic goes past that old store! If someone put a restaurant or bar there, it would make a fortune!

where i currently live a 4000 sqft house is under 300k
but then again i live in the middle of fucking nowhere

my sisters house is nice, its a duplex, they have the first floor, the 2nd floor is bigger and i think was listed at like 575 maybe 2K SQFT

anyway it was totally redone before they got it, but just stupidily expensive, when they were looking they were all basicially like that

Like Anubis has pointed out for that money you can get a small condo, single apartment, and thats about it. Nothing short of 1 million will get you any property worth investing in that area. I lived on Mission hill for a couple of years when I went to Northeastern and I believe my 3 unit apartment went for about 1.5 million, and it was pretty beat up. Mission hill isn't that bad of a neighborhood, better than Roxbury.

you can get a 2 bed condo on Gainsborough/st.stephans st. with that kinda money. Townhouses go for 600k-1.5M in that area though.
