For what? Your motherboard has a built in Ethernet connection. Just connect an Ethernet cable from your router.

Onboard sound is good enough for anything shy of 5.1 and 7.1 speaker systems (and even low end ones work with onboard sound) or 300 dollar+ headphones.

I suggest a Newegg open box(when they pop up) G73sw for $899+free shipping. Add a 128gb SSD and you have a very fast, nice machine that runs VERY cool. I already had my SSD, but one you ditch the stock Win 7 install with all the bloatware and the meh 500gb HDD, the G73 is quite potent. I prefer the old style laptop keyboards rather than the raised chicklet-style, but that's pretty much my only gripe. I'd also suggest one for the new price, but I opted for an open box simply to save money...

OP: "Hey guys, I need a plane."
Nerds: "You can get a train for WAY cheaper. Here's the kind of train you should get..."

Not really a good analogy because the desktop is much faster than a laptop

It's more like:

OP: "I need a train"
Nerds: "You can get a plane that goes much faster, and for half the price"
OP: "Can it play crysis?"
