I just find trying stuff on doesn't work that well at the store. There's a feeling of pressure to put it on, make sure it fits quickly, then buy or put it back. At home, you have an hour if you feel like it to check every detail, then you can take it off and try it again later.

I live within walking distance of a huge mall, so not that big a deal. I also go to that mall once or twice a week, so it's not really a hassle. Also, since I usually stick to the same few stores, it usually works out.

Are you a chic?

could be a case of in-store clothes being more worn-in after being tried on +dozens of times.

1. Each manufacture sizes pants differently. A 32x32 from one could be a 34x34 in another.

Go to a store and try on half a dozen of the same brand/same style. You'll probably still find that size varies a shocking amount, much less between different brands/styles. This is why I don't buy pants online.

I wonder if the germophobes ever considered that when trying on or even purchasing clothes, those clothes have the ball sweat and poo particles of dozens of people.

TBH, I'd be more worried about bug shit from god knows what kind of cargo container they were packed up inside of in some third world country.

I'm not a germophone, I'll suck it up when trying on clothes, but I nearly always wash them before properly wearing them (and I will not try on a hat in a store)

I have no choice. No one sells size 58-60 in stores, so I have to buy online. I never get a pant that fits me well. :(

dam you should apply for the biggest loser on nbc.

I used to wear size 62" pants o_O

never actually had a problem buying them online, but obviously mall shopping was out.

shopping is significantly more enjoyable now that I'm down to 33" pants.

Man, I'd be surprised if I go to the mall once a month and it's only a few miles from my home. I just pick out a bunch of pants/shirts I like and just take them into the dressing room and try them on. If they fit well and look good to me I buy them. If not, I just leave them.

Meh, it's close by, and I go read magazines at bookstores weekly. Too much time on my hands.

To answer the OP's original question:

I don't have a specific "site" that I order stuff from, but for the sake of consistency I keep it at 1 B&M store, 1 brand, 1 style. (Kohl's/Levi's/559). That doesn't entirely eliminate size discrepancies, but it helps quite a bit.

My best guess for the size discrepancies? Your clothes are being mass-produced in a factory somewhere in India or China, and quality/consistency assurance isn't a huge priority. Combined with underpaid and overworked workers who probably let some things slip, you get some inconsistencies in clothing.

I tried on a pair of jeans in store a couple weeks ago. Same brand, same size, different style, one size fit perfectly, the other was too tight. I personally wouldn't order clothing online.

I've had this happen to me with pants. Mine were the same everything, style, manufacturer, etc - the only difference was color. I laughed out loud literally at the huge difference.

i'm sure there is some hand assembly with clothing, so there is bound to be some difference, but mostly the vanity sizing as said, unless you know a brand well shopping online for pants is pretty dicey.
