Buying odd hardware (like bolts)

I'm looking for an odd bolt and neither Home Depot nor Lowes stocks what I need. I'm thinking I have to special order this bolt, but has anyone else ever run into a similar problem? I bought a dining table/chairs off craigslist and just noticed that a few bolts are missing on the chairs. They're fine for me personally (I'm ~140lbs), but I don't want to find out how they'd hold up to some of my larger friends. The problem is, they're really obscure.

If this nomenclature site is accurate, I'm looking for an M6-1.0x80. It's a 6mm wide bolt with 1mm wide threads in an 80mm long bolt. The kicker: the bolt head uses an allen wrench to secure it. Google is giving me next to nothing about custom ordering stuff.

The best I've found is a site that looks like it has what I want, but only sells in quantities of 100 (at a rate of $225/100). I only need 4.

Any ideas?

Give me $5.00 and I'll go to my local hardware store to get it for you. They have every metric and standard bolt known to man. That's where I go for hardware for my VW.

The local place by me is owned by a bolt genius. You show/tell him what you want and he zips off to one of 846,432 different little bins and pulls out the requested item.

I used to work at a local industrial supply distributor and they would have what you want (that is pretty standard size bolt). They mainly served businesses like machine shops and manufacturers but they also served individuals. They would break boxes of 100 and sell whatever needed. Awesome prices too... like many times I remember ringing up individuals for a handful of odd hardware and it would be no more than a couple of dollars (or often more like $0.20).

Fastenal was one of their competitors, so try them if you can't find a local place.

Yup, besides a truly hard to find bolt (really long, odd metric, or strange head) you can find most stuff at Ace. It really helps to know of a fastener supply company that has a retail counter. I use Copper State here in Phoenix for that sort of stuff. They only failed me on a weird metric nut.

Home Depot and Lowe's are the last places I would look when trying to find a specific bolt. As has been stated, local hardware stores are your best bet.
