Pretty sure I have the correct answer already but just want to reality check myself first. Being offered for sale a BNIB Nexus 5 that was purchased from T-Mobile rather than Google Play store. The phone should be unlocked by default and me be able to begin service with any carrier and without needing a Mother-May-I from T-Mobile first, correct? I haven't completely ruled out using T-Mo yet but don't want any hassles should I choose another carrier instead. Picking the right plan and carrier seems enough of a challenge without trying to worry about the phone working on it as well.

Make sure when you get this that it doesn't have any EIP left on it.

Hardware wise, no difference that you need to care (T-Mobile doesn't sell the 32 GB version though. if you are using phone on Sprint, you'll have to get Sprint to add the IMEI number to their system)

However, there is a difference in RMA. Google play devices get returned via google (you can get advance RMA which is a new device, before returning the old device)

I believe T-Mobile RMA process is different (you have to go through tmobile) and you get a refurb device
