Here is a 9800 pro for $155 shipped. I can't vouch for the retailer, but it seems like the card is brand new and in limited stock. That, and it's not the 128bit version. This would be a good option, or the 5900XT listed above.

There was a hot deal - many people missed YESTERDAY - for a 9800pro for $129 . . . it's back up to ~$180 now . . . :(
(ati goofed and corrected their $50 'trade-in' error this morning)

There will be other hot deals . . . keep lookin :)

Ive never seen that vendor in my life. I wouldnt reccomend buying from a vendor that could potentially be shady. On the BBB site, they have no record of their site. I wouldnt reccomend this vendor at all.

Get the 5900xt mentioned above. Its right in your range. :)

isn't the 9800p a faster card with more DX9 functionality?
(in basically the same price range)

My family's computer has a VisionTek GeForce2 Ti card in it and it's running fine. They no longer produce nVidia boards and have moved on the ATi boards. I believe they almost went out of business but was bought by another company. Their cards generally closely follow the reference designs given to them by the manufacturer. If it's still avaiable, then it would be a good deal for a 9800 for about $150.

J&R is reputable vendor. They sell on Amazon also. Very good deal on a new 9800 Pro.

Yea (DX9 functionality and/or performance)

Which puzzles me on why it's being recommended.

I think this used to be called J&R Music World back in the 80s. Bought my first real home stereo there. IIRC, good service, but that was 20+ years ago.:)

Well today it's called "J&R Music and Computer World" based on what's being displayed in the website title section on my browser.

Good BBB report, whatever it's called.

And it appears to have sold out (as it hit all the Hot Deal sites within a few minutes of getting posted last night). :p

Thanks, Avalon!

EDIT: it sold out within 8 hours!
that's the "AT effect" ;)

and why anyone would recommend a 5900xt instead of a 9800p - at the same price - is beyond me. :p
