Buying NBA Finals Tickets off Craigslist

My friend is crazy and is down to go to Game 2 of the Lakers/Celtics series. I'm kinda iffy about it because I'm not sure if this is the best $300 of my money to spend.

But hypothetically speaking, if we all decide to go, he and I already contacted some dude on Craigslist and we're ready to commit. One last question before we give the OK... so we're obviously paying $$$$ per ticket. Any way to verify they're real? I mean the last thing I want is for him to print some fake tickets and screw us over.

And yes I'm aware of the typical CL precautions to meet in a public location in day, etc etc.... but I guess I'm more worried about the tickets being fake/invalid than anything else when we're talking this much money.

Season ticket seats or did he get in on the presale earlier this afternoon? The season tickets have a hologram/emblem from my understanding but the presale purchase is a generic-like ticket that ticketmaster emails you to print out, so ask the guy to forward you that email if thats what he's selling.

I tried in vain to get tickets through ticketmaster this afternoon but was summarily shut out. I went to the semi's and conference finals games but the finals game still eludes me, so good luck and have fun if it all works out. I was shooting for the same game 🙂

There were 2 of us trying at the 10am AMEX presale today.
4 of us tried at the 2pm sale today. I had 2 computers going. No luck.

I'm guessing he had season tickets if he had these already. My friend linked me the Craigslist post last night (well before the AMEX and today's general sale), so I imagine they're from season tickets....

Just be careful off of craigslist, for big ticket tickets, I prefer eBay since you have paypal to fall back on if the tickets were fake.

if you meet up then i believe the tickets should have designs on them and be a special 'collectors' ticket. if they send you through ticketexchange you'll get it at will call, it'll be a generic looking ticket, but you can be rest assured they're legit. other than that i guess i dont have a tried-and-true way to verify the authenticity.

i tried the amex presale and the lakers support presale (unique code) and was shut out at both. after being frustrating and spending more time filling captcha's than i wanted to, i just gave up and didnt bother with the 2pm general sale.

thanks for your help. if this goes through we'll have 1 extra ticket if you're interested. (theres 3 of us buying 4)

argh, jealous ... I've only been to laker's semis last yr, this should be fun.

If these are hardcopy tickets, just be careful picking them up, make sure you bring a friend or something.

Wanted to go this year but I had a lot of crap in May... that and my friend in LA couldn't hunker down and settle on them. Looking back, I should've gone to those instead. Half the price and I could've gone to 2 games with this kinda money.

Anyway, we did it almost movie-style. The friend of mine, who isn't the brightest guy in the world (and this is probably why he couldnt get us tickets in the first place when it came to playoffs when we didn't push him enough) didn't go to the bank to withdraw cash, not knowing ATMs have a daily limit, and it was 5pm. Instead he texts the seller that we can do paypal (this is what I suggest as we're out of options at this point). I settle using my Buy/Sell tactics as I use on Photography-on-the-net, where we agree to pay for the 3% fee so I get some security (quite honestly I was a little selfish... I was hoping the risk taker was my friend, and after all it was his idea... but it wasn't like I was gonna bail on him if he got scammed... but anyway it feels different now I'm involved). Seller agrees, sends me a bill via e-mail which is the right amount.

Of course my friend doesn't meet in the best place of all, and doesn't bring a friend, which gets me worried, but I suppose this is somewhat ok now that he doesn't have thousands of dollars on him. He calls me saying the tix look good, I paypal the seller, who on his iPhone confirms it, and then the transaction looks good, and they part.

But all in all it was a smooth transaction I hear. While waiting for Paypal, the guy already told my friend all about the other season tickets holders that sit around him, parking tips, etc etc. So I think we're good. Definitely always a scary thing to deal with a high priced transaction like this, but I'm glad the seller was a nice dude who let us use Paypal and was an honest guy (now let's hope the tickets work on the day of right?)

Obviously I have tremendous buyer's remorse now because I can always use a little extra cash! But hey! Once in a lifetime right?

I spent over a $600 for a single ticket + $300 roundtrip plane ticket
college football national championship game
no regrets whatsoever

You know, I feel like I've spent more time and effort in college football than ever. I've never been to a bowl game (though my school has gone every year), but even the regular season stunners and rivalry games are priceless moments.

I'm almost certain a NC game would just cause my heart to jump out...

Somehow since college I don't think I've ever been as excited for pro sports again... I mean excited yes, but never the same dedication as NCAA.

Anyway, I'm sure once I start this trip and no matter the outcome of this game I'll probably be pumped up like mad... 😀
