buying jewelry for GF

Is buying a non-engagement ring for a christmas or birthday gift that is diamond/gem something I shouldnt do?

i.e. should I be buying her earrings or a necklace instead.

Exactly. Diamond rings that aren't meant for engagement are bad news. Stick to necklaces, bracelets, and ear rings.

Unless you know EXACTLY the ring or necklace or pendant or whatever in the way of jewelry that she wants (and you would know this because she has pointed it out to you, shown you an ad, etc) DO NOT BUY IT.

We hate getting jewelry that we would never wear but then feel obligated to when we're around you just because you spent money on that funny-looking ring/necklace/pendant. It's a waste of money for you anyway.

If you're going to go ahead and give her jewelry not knowing EXACTLY what she wants, please tell us it's OK to exchange it AND hand over the receipt at the same time so we can take it back and get what we want instead.

worst advice ever. If I'm gonna drop the money to get a woman some nice jewelry (and I mean NICE) she had better appreciate it and adore it. I would never ask for a woman to point out what she wants and would normally already have an idea of what she likes.

But for sure the OP should avoid anything with diamonds in them unless they're earrings or a pendant.

yeah, i don't say this often, but SmoochyTX is right on this one. Been married 7 years and i make sure i send pics of whatever jewelry i'm thinking of buying my wife before i drop the money, and only once has she ever like what I picked out for her the first time.

no, its not a big deal.
my bf (now husband) got me a few rings (althouhg none with diamonds) for a lot of occasions.
i would stay away from diamond rings of any kind unless its the ONE.
go for a percious stone or something if you want to go the way of a ring.

i gave my g/f a promise ring (nothing special, no diamonds...its actually kind of crappy, lol i figured if she put up with it long enough she wouldnt drop me when i buy a cheap enguagment ring, lol) and a bday ring...has her birthstone in it...

just dont spend a lot of money...if uspend a lot now, she will want more later....go CHEAP...that way when u finally do buy something expensive she will be like O_O!!! WTFBBQ!! *sex sex sex*
