I usually order all my stuff online, but I feel like I cant even wait the couple days it will take to get here. Is it really that bad to buy from a place like Fry's?

I'm going to be buying an entire system:
e6600
GTS 8800
case, ram, mobo, etc.

People here report boxes with completely different parts inside, opened & damaged parts sold as new, and poor customer service.

Order from newegg instead and watch some movies or something while you wait :)

I would say no

as long as your getting it for the same price that is generally why people order from online as they can find it for a cheaper price also fry's doesn't have as much products and usually just have basic stuff don't have as many options as online.

I'd probably still order online as I can get exactly what I want if you go to fry's you'll probably end up getting stuff that's not as good as stuff online

example memory I don't see them having a big choice on memory if you wanted something that overclocks well probably would be hard to find
case they probably have a few antec cases but I can see them having those "asian" type cases with flashing lights that are cheaply made and a waste of cash
there 8800GTS is probably more than online

other than that if you think you can get what you want at fry's go for it but if you can't be patient and order online.

I have purchased products from Fry's and have never had any problems with their products or returning products. You have to do your research and know what you are buying. I have purchased CPU/motherboard combos, RAM, hard drives, cases, and media from Fry's. You can often find these items as cheap as ordering over the Internet. Video cards purchased over the Internet are the only item that you can consistently get a better deal on rather than purchasing at Fry's. Of course, the Internet has a better selection of products than Fry's, but that is to be expected.

Fry's isn't bad, you just have to know how to deal with them much like Best Buy or CompUSA.

Exactly. There's a Frys on my drive home from work, and I stop in for stuff that I need immediately, like for a rush job or something. If you know exactly what you need and how much you can get it for online (including shipping) you can make a good decision. Time is money, and having stuff immediately is sometimes worth the extra $10.

Do NOT under any circumstances get anything "refurbished" there. They take returned merchandise in, repackage it, and put it back on the floor. Nobody actually tests anything. It will almost always be DOA. You can sometimes leverage their huge buying power to get awesome deals. I got a decent wireless router for $30 the other day - resold it for $79 ;)

It's a very stressful place to shop, filled with morons and people who think they know what they're doing... I get homicidal rage when I stay there for too long :D
