Buying directly from ATI..

Has anyone bought any products directly from ATI.com? I've decided that I am sick of waiting for the 256 version of the FX5900. (going to go with the Radeon 9800 Pro) Has anyone ever purchased video cards from ATI? Or should I use an online supplier such as newegg... Thanks

When it comes down to high-end 3D computer graphics, it should make a difference. Thanks for the information though

Don't want the sapphire version. Want it to be built by ATI. I had a bad experience with a sapphire =/

of course, they've been making them for a fairly long time I believe...
I keep seeing Reviews, and the one you posted shows the FX5900 ultra smacking the Radeon. Despite my love for the Radeon, I'm having second thoughts again. I originally wanted to get the Gainward 5900, but the 256 meg version hasn't been released yet, and I'm very impatient. You think I should wait? or just impulse buy and get the 9800 pro? =) Thanks

Based on about 6 different reviews I've read, both cards are pretty much the same except for little factors such as super high resolution performance and noise differences. The only reason I was going to choose the Radeon was because I've used Radeon all my life, and for the most part it has served me well. I wanted to move to the Nvidia side to try it out, see if I like it better. What would you suggest?

And if I'm going to be doing a lot of graphics, do you think I should wait for the 256 meg version? or just get the 128

I wouldn't go for nvidia if im planning on buying mass market games considering all the tweaking theyve done to optimise the benchmarks in there favour.

Ati = clean

nvidia = dirty monkeys

Theres a difference between admitting your cheating and covering it up and cheating some more. Id take the former.

Well if you were seriously considering the 9800 pro 256meg version, then I assume you could comfortably afford it.
This is America, go for it!
I don't think the 5900 will be that much better. Especially since you said you're mostly about graphics and not games.

I don't like ATI's drivers, they seem to fix a problem and make 10more. Almost makes me want to jump to tne Nvidia ship but they are dirty monkeys after all.

BTW you have $500 to spend on a graphics card? 😛 you'll be disapointed when u can buy a whole functioning 2nd computer for that price.

seems like they are both at fault at "cheating" and "optimizing", check out this article as i have pointed out in the other thread on this forum:
THG article

as marketing goes, i am comfortable with one company trying to push their own products, but NOT when the other company just plainly bash the other company as to calling it "decelerator". name one popular game that uses DX9!

go nuts and buy the 256mb cards if you think it's that important. we poor hobos need to sell our organs to buy any of these cards

Back to the original question, I bought a 8500LE from ATI.com and didn't have any problems. It took a little longer than usual to get here though since they ship from Canada.
