My friend wants to get a CD-RW, and he asked me what he should get.

I said a Plextor 8/4/32 IDE drive. This is a good drive right?

Yep, Plextor is good. You might want to consider Yamaha and HP as well.

Plextor is definitely the best. HP and Yamaha are good choices, as is Sony (who makes HP's drives anyhow).

I was pretty sure Plextor was a good drive, I just wanted to double check before getting my friend to shell out the cash for a drive.

I have a Mitsumi 4/2/8 drive right now, I'm thinking of getting a Plextor 12/10/32 drive for myself. Are there many places that sell 12x media?

I highly recomend the Plextor CDRW, I prefer the SCSI type though and don't have a clue on the IDE for how well it does copies. I had a Yamaha before and had trouble with some copy protected games.. Ooops, shouldn't have said that.. hehe.. but it worked good overall but I don't think it's as good as the plextor but then again it was a slightly older 6-4-16 yamaha, they may have gotten better with newer models. But I sure haven't had any problems with the Plextor doing copys, it's a very good CDRW, fast and reliable and should have a long life. I got sold on plextors with my first 6X CD that was faster than many 8X's back when they first came out. It lasted a very long time with heavy use and still works but sits on the bookshelf now... It outlasted it's use.
