Buying card with good TV out and gaming ability. (agp)

I have read in all the place I could about buying a decent card. Currently I have a Creative Labs 16MB TNT AGP. All I want to do is have the ability to have TV out to watch movies. And not loose the card I have.

I came across a few that seem decent but didn't fit my bill. I want a card that is AGP, priced under $150 and gives good TV out and game play.

Any suggestions? If I did have the ATI All-In-Wonder Pro 32MB would that also support Glide and stuff?

Thanks 🙂

Only 3dfx (or 3DFX or 3Dfx or 3dFx or ....) support glide.

You don't need an All-in-Wonder card. That has a TV tuner and TV-in also. You don't need that to watch movies (at least DVD movies, which I assume is what you mean).

Probably the best for under $150 (about $100, actually) for excellent TV-out and decent game play is the ATi Rage Fury Pro. It has 32 MB of memory, really good TV-out, and gaming performance better than double what you get with your TNT. It also has built-in hardware DVD decoding functions, which is a major plus compared to other cards you might look at.

The ATI card has a full featureset with some of the best tv-out. But the 3d performance is less than incredible. You may wanna go with a TNT2, or V3 with tv out. Or if, you can wait a little bit, the Geforce MX should be ideal for what you're looking for,

Maybe, but the TNTx cards (including GeForce) have underwhelming TV-out quality and the V3 TV-out is a joke compared to ATi.

As to the video output of the Voodoo3 you can believe Workin'

or you can believe Anand Lal Shimpi

Luckily that statement means good things for the 3500, as the picture quality of the TV-output was top notch, definitely superior to that of any other graphics card with TV-output ever reviewed on AnandTech, including the Matrox Marvel G200 and the G400.

Go with the WinTV or other add in card. That way you don't lose tv when you next upgrade your video. My WinTV has lasted through 3 video card upgrades.

Oh, I'd believe Anand, he's a God among men. No I'm not either, and I respect Anand's opinions (but not as much lately, he seems to be more and more at odds with results found on numerous other sites, but that's a whole different thread......)

I've personally seen examples of each type of card and their TV-out quality, so I stand by what I said.
