Hi thinking of buying a video card from newegg or similar. Video cards in Australia are about $50 more expensive than US like $360 for 7900gt, my parents are going to US for holiday so I thought I can get them to bring it to me. I'll place an online order with address for a US relative.

What video card based on fact I cannot do mail rebate since i live overseas. Should i get 7900gt or x1800xt? I dont want to spend more than US$290 and my power supply is 400W Thermaltake so im guessing i may be pushing it if i buy x1800xt?

yeah dagabs i agree, i wish we had newegg or similar here in Australia.

so is the best choice $249US sapphire x1800xt? The problem with this is I probably have to replace my power supply then. Cause x1800xt consumes more power than 7900gt i've read from reviews. I probably have to get minimum Antec Trupower2 480W for AUS$127 on top of $249US for graphcs card

then just get a 7900GT :( if you don't want to change your PSU.

I would also get the X1800XT 512MB model because more memory is good for the future gaming.

newegg is pretty much the cheapiest place to buy your stuff but you can tell your parents to go in local computer shop to buy your gear.

I don't buy from Newegg since I live in Hawaii. Their UPS charges are out of this world. If you can get it from a relative in US, go for it.

Now how come us Aussies are getting ripped of so badly

Cheapest 1800xt card I found in Aus was Powercolor for $489

I WISH NEWEGG WAS IN AUS, AAAHHHHHHHHH. The horror, the horror.

Auspcmarket has the powercolor one for $379 including delivery, and they are not the cheapest place around. I think it's just the site you are looking at.

The main difference for retailers aus to US is tax - GST and import duties - mail order won't work as aust customs will seize it and demand you pay them import duties on it, getting someone to bring it back as carryon will probably work though.

That powercolor for $379 is the x1800GTO, not XT.
Check out http://www.nindeals.com.au/]NinDeals[/URL], they're trying to get us some decent prices here in Aus. It's only new, but it looks promising. (2GB ram for $200, etc)
