need to figure this out so I can buy it - is the difference between the platinum and Fatal1ty just the X-RAM because I don't think $100 dollars is worth the difference if that is the case.

What do you think?

The only differance is the breakout box, Platinum is external and Fatal1ty is internal. Both use the same PCI soundcard with XRAM. The other versions not listed are the ones with out xram.

He's talking about the Platinum, not the Elite Pro.

Yes the only difference is the X-Ram and the fact that the lights on the Fatality version of the internal drive is red instead of blue.

I wouldn't waste the Xrta C note on the RAM as there are yet any games which utilize it and it's there for future gaming use which is yet to be determined and the Mobo RAM can handle it anyways...

Don't get it to play BF2, there's a freaking 300+ post thread on Creative's support page talking about how it screws up performance. I can attest to this.

What's wrong with the X-treme music (or however they spelled it).

Do you have a decent set of speakers/headphones that you're hooking up?

What soundcard are you replacing and what are you hoping to gain from the upgrade?

What's with that thread about popping noises in BF2? How come none of the reviews I've read came across that problem?

I didn't read the whole thread since it's so long but is it really that bad?

How can you attest to this? I am wanting to buy one and that is the main game I play.

There's two long threads on the forums at soundblaster.com of people having problems with it. What I find odd is none of the reviews I've read mentioned anything.

The Platinum has 2Mb XRAM, whereas the Fatality has 64Mb. The XRAM is not supported by games yet (if it ever will), so I would not pay the extra 100$ for Fatality.

If you are asking if there is any sound quality differences between the two X-Fi cards, then no. The Xtreme, Platinum, and Fatal1ty will all sound the same in music and games, due to them all using the same DACs, same architecture (except for the Fatal1ty, which just has the XRAM, but it remains to see if the XRAM will be worthwhile in future games). Only the expensive X-Fi Elite Pro will sound better than the other X-Fi models, due to it using higher quality DACs (the same DACs used in the EMU 0404, 1212m, Audigy 4 Pro).

Cheaper to buy an X-Fi Extreme Music and an EMU0404 than to buy the Elite Pro.

E-MU0404 is amazing for music. I use an X-Fi for games and the E-MU for music.
