The whois says the domain I want expired oct 17, but its still unavailable for purchase? How long do i have to wait until I can purchase it? Should I back order it from godaddy or another service.

About 3 months. When a domain expires it goes into a lengthy process internally. There is still a chance for the "owner" of the domain to buy it back for standard domain price for one year up to about 2 weeks after expiration. After that they STILL have a chance of getting it back by paying the registrar whatever they charge for up to about 2 months. It can go to auction, backorder, then back to open registration.

Do a backorder. If you are able to backorder it through a registrar then nobody else has that domain backordered.....through that registrar. Someone else might have a backorder on it from a different registrar though.

Just a heads up.

Unfortunately there is no definitive answer but it's around 45-60 days.

If you don't use a domain backordering service like SnapNames.com, it will probably be snagged by a domain squatter.

Just how badly do you want this domain?
