Buying a used Toyota Tacoma ...

How long do they last for typically?

Is it risky to get one with 100K+ miles on it?

Thanks 🙂

Depends on how well the owner took care of it. Basic service and replacement of wear and tear parts, it should last 250,000+ miles.

Terrorist organizations the world around use the Toyota Hylux. This is apparently because it's damn near invincible.

Fortunately for you, it appears that the Hylux and Tacoma are the same truck.

So, assuming build quality hasn't gone south lately, they're unstoppable.

However, the foreign version is typically diesel. Good luck finding a diesel tacoma.

basically any vehicle well maintained will last forever. i personally if i was looking for a truck would look at used american trucks, they have good prices used and are very good and reliable.

Tacomas are great reliable trucks and they have a pretty high resale value. I have owned 2 since 99 and have enjoyed them both thoroughly.

You should be able to get ~180-200k miles on it without any major repairs if you keep it serviced.

Definitely have a carfax run on anything you buy used... I just noticed craigslist usually has someone offering a carfax report for $1...

While we are talking trucks . . . .

what can you tell me about the 1993 model year of Chevy Silverado C/K 1500's?
113k miles, clean carfax. Regular cab, 8 foot bed, V6, auto. Should it last for a while?

Might last for a while... but sounds like a crap truck

Tacomas are very reliable from what I've heard. Thats mainly why you willl end up paying a couple thousand more for a tacoma than a simialr year domestic. I like the prerunner version a lot, but they were too expensive for me.

check for rust though

i have a 1997 4wd tacoma 3.4l V6, I bought it 3 years ago with ~33k miles on it, now it has ~51k miles. awsome vehicle, i really enjoy it. Its too low of miles to have had many problems with it, but the only problem I have had was the starter wasnt working right, turns out the contacts inside had worn themselves down. Found a place online selling just contacts, $12 for them and me and my dad fixed it, no problems since 🙂 anyway i wouldnt have a problem buying a 100k mile tacoma if i knew how well it had been taken care of. good luck! i think you'd really enjoy one
