Buying A TV For PC/Console Gaming, Would A 49 Inch TV Be Too Big?

I am going to buy a 42 or 49 inch Vizio TV with a soundbar. After seeing so many bad review on 2014 model LG Televisions and finding out that Samsung has some horrible viewing angles, I have now turned to Vizio. I currently have a 32 inch LED TV at 60hz and 6.5 ms that I use as a monitor for gaming, I do find it is too big since I am sort of looking up at it but that is because my desk is so high, also gonna buy a height adjustable desk so I can level it out with my field of vision.

Still, would a 47-49 inch TV be too big for PC gaming? Does anyone play PC games on a Huge TV?

I suppose it might not be so big if you have it far away from you on the table, my main issue is I don't wanna be looking up at it because the TV is too big.

You'd need to find a bench or stand that's shorter than you desk to use it without neck strain.

I'd say 49 inch is too small... but I play on my 70 inch HDTV or my 80 inch projection screen.

Not sure why you'd think a TV would be "too big" to game on?

I sit 8 feet away from my 80 inch projection screen that I'm typing this post on. I haven't used something less than 70 inches for gaming in a 2+ years now.

Just make sure your TV is positioned correctly. Obviously if my HDTV was on my ceiling it wouldn't be fun. My eyes are about mid screen projection level (I'm playing in bed my projector screen is infront of it I just lay down and play or sit up and play) and my 70 inch HDTV is about the same level when sitting on my couch.

I placed my HDTV on a cheap walmart "stand". You typically find them laying around cheap college apartments/frat houses. Put my TV at pthe perfect height to me.

It all depends on how far away you sit. I once tried building an HTPC/Gaming PC for my 60" plasma. Found out that, sitting about 8-10' away, the screen was actually smaller than a 24" screen when sitting around 1 to 2' away.

This. I have a 50" TV which I deemed the max size at the seating distance I have (a few meters). Anything larger and pixels would become apparent especially when gaming. That said, I prefer a proper monitor for computer use and gaming, just more comfortable to have the keyboard and mouse on the desk rather than sofa. Plus there are no high refresh rate TVs available.

So the Vizio P Series HDTV at 120 Hz isn't a high refresh HDTV?

Has native 120hz...

Edit, it's not the only one either... there are multiple other ones so gotta keep up with the times!

...on your desk, you said? I tried that with a 37" TV and found it too big, but it had a pretty tall pedestal and very large border so the screen itself was higher than it needed to be.
I've seen some new TVs that have little flat legs so it sits very low to whatever table/desk you put it on... usually in the 32-40" range. I'd call that a good choice. Heck - I want one! I had a good 32" TV as a monitor for a week and I loved it!!

No it's not. Those TVs are not real, native 120 Hz. If you look at that Visio, it clearly says it will only do 4K@60Hz and for some reason only 4K@30Hz on some ports. All TVs that claim x Hz are simply using frame interpolation for that so they are not in reality anything more than 60 Hz refresh rate. Typical HDMI in TVs will just not do more than 60 Hz at native resolution. Not to that most TVs are non-TN panels so even if they were truly 120 Hz it would all be mitigated by panel response times and input lag.

I have a 104 inch projected screen that I play PC games on from my couch with a controller. Sometimes I get dizzy, but its always awesome.

This is a comparison with a 48 inch TV, a 49 inch won't be much bigger. Even when the TV is on a lower level than the person, they would still be looking up at it. I will be buying a height adjustable desk and maybe putting it at the end of the desk would help but I don't think I could make the desk go as low as it is in the picture. The 42 inch screen might be the best choice.

I currently have a 32 inch 6.5 60hz LED screen that I use for PC gaming and I am looking up at it slightly but the desk is high.

Does anyone play PC games sitting on a desk using a huge 48-55 inch screen?

Having had a 37'' t.v at 4 feet away as my biggest pc screen, i much preferred the 24'' size at about 4 feet away. My current desk has a 18.5 768p screen on it and at 3 feet away from my face i find it almost perfect. 24'' at 3 feet had me scanning left to right a bit to much but i think a comfortable perfect size would be about 20-21''.

I just like to sit and see the whole screen without scanning ,keeps me focused more in fps games without the eye sore. Lower fps i guess is a awesome bonus too.

I rock a 60" Samsung LED TV at 8 feet. Looks great, plays great. I experience no lag in the monitor or the games I play (which includes FPS).

Mind the wiring, it's all getting redone this weekend so that's why it's all pulled out currently.

You get used to gaming on any size screen really, I game on my 125" projector screen and the bigger the better for me. I couldn't imagine anything as small as 60" or below being a problem. As long as you're not so close you get screen door from the pixels, but at about 10ft even 1080p across 125" is fine.
