I want to get my girlfriend a new board for Christmas, but I've never bought snowboard equipment before. Any recommendations for boards, bindings, boots, etc.???

you have to keep in mind her height and weight. It matters greatly when you buy a board.

Also, consider binding type. You have your strap-ins and step-ins, generally.

Step-ins are convenient and quick, but they're not as secure as strap-ins, which are the more preferred choice. Strap-ins require most people to sit down and strap their boots into the board, whereas most people can just step into the step-in bindings, hence the name.

In terms of brand, they're all mostly good, really. If she's a beginner, I'd say to stick with Burton or Salomon.

You most definitely should go into a store and talk to people

Shes not a beginner, her board is just older. I know about the height and weight issues, and right now she has Flow strap-in bindings. I just wanted to get her some new equipment.

there's enough womens-specific equipment out there nowadays that she would have a lot to choose from.

I know burton may be overpriced by my wife really likes her burton feather board, though its a few years old now.

Frankly, all the boards are mapped out based on height/weight/ and skill level. once you figure those 3 things out you should be able to find one that fits.

i would check the specs on her current board as far as width and length, and then set a price level you're willing to spend.

I would absolutely recommend including her in the purchasing process. I can understand wanting to make it a surprise but the most important consideration is personal comfort. This is especially true for boots/bindings, hut holds for the board as well.

as a long time skier i agree, getting new equip is great but it needs to fit and such

best bet is to get her lile a gift cert to a place that sells equip, tell her you wanted to get her a new board but wanted to let her pick it out to make sure it was the correct fit/size/whatever
