Just a note about using ski racks. They will kill your gas mileage. A friend of mine has one on his Altima and thats what he says about it. Not sure how much of a reduction he gets though.
So if possible, store them inside the car. Thats what I do.

Racks will kill gas milage?? Really? Something that light would? Or are they not that light? I plan on only putting 4 boards on there when hitting the slopes.. wow

it has nothing to do with being light, it is adding the shape of a brick to the roof to a previously aerodynamically sound vehicle. You have an "SUV" so put the snowboard in there.

OIC.. well if there are 4 passengers, 4 snowboards in the back will barely fit in the cargo space.. especially with all our bags and such..

also, there is a thing called a 'fairing' (available as additional option with the Q Towers model at least) that helps to reduce wind noise, so I would think that actually helps reduce drag as well. it diverts wind up, as opposed to having it manuever through the snowboard/ski equipment. just a thought!

I think you guys are really overblowing the effect a roof rack will have on mileage. Even carrying two bicycles, which produce much greater drag than any number of snowboards ever could, I have never lost more than about 5% in mileage. It's not as though the snowboards are laid vertically. In this case, the vehicle is a midsize SUV, which already has a less-than-stealthy profile to the wind.
True. Since in my case, the drive to the slopes is around 300 miles, the gas mileage effect is more noticeable. If you happen to live in say Salt Lake City and only 30 miles from the slopes, then you probably would not notice it at all.
