Buying a P4 at the show tomorrow. Edit: Got a SL6RZ

There is a computer show nearby tomorrow and I'm getting a C1 stepping P4 for overclocking. I have a P4PE board and the ram does 185/370 @ default and almost 200/400 with relaxed settings on memtest86.

I want to get either a 2.53 SL6S2 Mvid, or a 2.4. Is the 2.4 SL6EF, or the SL6RZ better?

Also if I understand correctly on the box, a Prod Code of BX0532PE2533DSL685 and a FPO/Batch of 3214A873 Means that it's a 2.53 SL685 made in Costa Rica in the 14th week of 2002?
E.g. Last 5 digits of the prod code is the SL spec, the first digit of the FPO/Batch is the plant location, second digit is the year, and 3rd&4th digits are the week of manufacture?

I currently have a Thermaltake Volcano 478 (Specs)
Is the Volcano 478 enough to do 3.1 - 3.5 ghz or should I be looking at better fan. If so is there a decent $20 - $35 heatsink?

Thanks

You should really look for the ones from Malaysia "L" starting code and get only SL6S2 (2.53) or SL6RZ (2.4b)
I would get another heatsink if i were you...the best 2 are either the alpha 8942 or the Swiftech MCX4000
you don't really need a fan blowing more than 32cfm.

In order of preference:

1) 2.53 SL6S2 Mvid
2) 2.4 SL6RZ Mvid
3) 2.4 SL6EF

1st letter or digit of FPO/Batch#=plant code

0=San Jose,Costa Rica
3=..............,Costa Rica
1=Cavite,Philippines
R=Manila,Philippines
7=..........,Philippines
9=Penang,Malaysia
Q=...........,Malaysia
L=............,Malaysia (Many swear this is the best variety)
8=Leixlip,Ireland
Y=Leixlip,Ireland
6=Chandler,Arizona

Example:3214A873

3=plant (Costa Rica)

2nd digit=Year of production (2002)

3rd & 4th digits=week (14th week )

(A873)=some kind of traceability number

yes yes and yes.
Just the thought, you don't NEED extra cooling for your P4.
I have my SL6EF Q252 running @ 3.03 @ 1.6V w/ stock HSF and mod the fan speed from 2800rpm down to 1900rpm.
Still run below 55 under full load.

2.5B average around 3.3Ghz. 2.4B average around 3.1Ghz w/ minimum voltage increase. The question is if extra $20 worth extra 200mhz.?

Thanks Everyone, I'll be looking for a SL6S2 or SL6RZ L Malaysia at the show tomorrow.
Seems opinions are either stock or get an Alpha or Swiftech. Swiftechs are insanely expensive but it looks like it's possible to get an Alpha with a fan for under $40.
Any other good heatsinks that are less?

Also I only have Arctic Silver II. Should I spend the money for AS3 or is it not worth it?

Seriously...it is really NOT necessary to spend more money on HSF. I am using radioshack's cheap HS paste and running my PC 247. If you going spend extra $40 on HS, might as well buy yourself a faster Retail processor? If you search the web, you will realized all these AS paste has been way too over-rated. And extra large HS is definitely not necessary for P4.

Timekeeper,
When I had a P3-700@933 the only thing that kept it properly cool was my Kanie Hedgehog. Also used that beastie for my Athlon XP. No stock heatsink could touch it. I do have to admit my Volcano 478 does a fine job cooling my B0 2.53 @ 2.8 - 1.55v but will a C1 running at 3.1-3.5 ghz overload this? I do a bit of 3D gaming when I have the time, so the cpu will be running at max temp for sometimes hours on end.
I see you hit 55c degrees at full load, have you had any heat problems or smooth sailing?

Again, another link to proof my point in real world :)
Notice I purposely Lower my stock fan speed from 2800rpm down to 1900rpm???????
(I can't stand any noise, thus I have my PSU fan replace w/ NMB <18dBA 80mm fan)

And I have NOT a single problem running my fan @ 1900rpm while making 2 hours killing in UT2003.

Timekeeper,
Ok I see your point. I guess I'll put the retail heatsink it comes with or the Volcano 478 on the C1.
Thanks. :)

Picked up a Malaysian (Q not L) SL6RZ 2.4, I've got a 2 papers, a test, and a job fair I need to attend so I probably won't do much of anything with this cpu until Tuesday night. I'll be sure to post test stats Thugsrook style. Hoping for 3.2ghz.
Timekeeper, I know I said I wasn't going to get a heatsink but a TT Spark7 for $26 was too good to pass up. Every review I've read loves this heatsink. :)
