Buying a new X1900XT off ebay

I'm looking to purchase an X1900XT off ebay in the next week or so. If I do, which manufacturer should I go after to make sure I will still get a warranty, or do all of them void the warranty if you don't buy it from an authorized retailer? Or, am I worrying about nothing because all I'll need to do is send in the registration card when I purchase it?

Second, do you think the price of the X1900XTs is going to plummet in the next 3 weeks? I'll be home for another week, then I'm off to Florida for 2 weeks. I could wait, but going without a video card for another week is going to kill me :)

Thanks!

Honestly, I'd get a 2nd 7800GT. You'll get faster performance for almost 2x less cost (unless you resell 7800GT you have to help recoup the cost of upgrade). I am sure if you get ATi, the warranty will still hold. Powercolor offers lifetime warranty if i recall correctly. Don't know about Sapphire.

The 7800GT is already sold. Plus I didn't want to have two video cards in my system (non-SLI mobo anyhow).

Thanks for the input.

Any others?

He won't get faster performance, he'll get performance that is about on par with older games while having to put up with nVidia's lack of features, IQ and having to deal with profiles. Better to get that X1900XT off ebay and have a single card with the newest features and best IQ on the planet. If you get a new X1900XT off eBay, go with Powercolor since they offer a lifetime warranty:

For our retail Graphics Card products purchased on or after January, 24, 2006, PowerColor will provide a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser of each retail product that the product will not suffer, in material or workmanship, from any defect that adversely affects the performance of the product. This lifetime warranty is valid for the life of the retail product, as so long as the original purchaser owns the product, based upon the following conditions:

* PC Lifetime Warranty applies to all X1900 series retail Graphics Card
* Product must be with no physical damage to the PCB, GPU/chipset, or components
* Product must in retail package and have been registered with PowerColor.
* Offer is only valid in the USA and Canada .

You might want to check the X1900XT in my sig for $449, its from a very reliable etailer at an excellent price - I'd go w/Newegg over eBay.

most warranties arent transferrable. If it's new in box, you'll be fine. if you buy used, i think you are SOL. powercolor has a great warranty. asus has good service. ati's warranty is short but services is astounding.

I would contact the seller to make sure it comes with a warranty.

Some warranties only apply to "authorized retailers"

I wasn't talking about that, I was talking about him bashing the 2x7800GT SLI idea. It's not just this thread, he's been all over promoting ATI :)

sli is generally not a viable upgrade path. As a high end graphics path yes(and i mean as in if there is no way you can get the level of performance with a single card) but if there is a viable single card solution available, why mess wiyth crossfire or sli?

Despite being such an ATI fanboy, you dont even know how their technology works. Crossfire uses profiles built-in the Catalyst AI system

Learn to read, I said SINGLE CARD vs SLI. Nobody is talking about crossfire.

The two cards in his sig are some of the hottest deals you can find today. The only thing nVidia has that matches the $299 X1800XT is the XFX 7900GT Extreme (550/1630), but nothing nVidia has beats an X1900XT for $449.

If the guy didn't register his card and it's retail, you might be able to get away with the warranty if you register it. Now...I'm not recommending you commit fraud but let's face it...as expensive as these cards are, so long as you're not killing it by overclocking or due to physical damage I see it as a grey area when the cards change ownership and the first owner never registered the card. Some companies do cover one change of ownership. I believe some covers an X amount of time regardless of owner. The best I can say is to check who makes the card and check that companies warranty policies.
