Buying a new vehicle 100 miles up the interstate?

I've read that it's a terrible thing to drive a car at a constant speed for a decent length of time when it's still in the break-in period. However, it's possibly I'm going to get a better deal from a place that's about 100 miles up the interstate.

What do you do in that situation? Just grin and bear it? Or enjoy a 3 hour ride back home on the backroads in your new car? I guess some of you are rich enough to have it shipped to you, but not me. 😛

The car isn't made from fine china, just drive it home. Most break-in procedures (if any) recommend varying speeds / engine RPMs for the first 1000 miles, but frankly, I dont think it's going to make or break anything.

some new cars dont even have a break in period (engine is factory tested before installed) so check up on that for your specific car of interest

Manuaal or auto? I'f it's manual just shift from 4th->5th->6th->5th->4th occassionally. Assuming you have 6th gears, if not, I wouldn't go into that last gate 😉.

Drive it home. I would do the country road thing because it's fun, especially with a new car. Nothing is going to happen.

My wife got a 6-Speed that I would occasionally drive; there were a few issues when I went back to my 5-Speed.😱

lolol.

I wouldn't worry about it. Machining is so precise anymore that break-in isn't what it used to be. If you're worried about it, just vary the speed +/- 10mph.

hahaha, this is why i love german cars, you gotta push it in and slide it over...not easy to do it on 'accident'.
