Buying a new "used" car for someone else sucks :(

I just bought my fiance a car, I just went and picked one out. she loves it!

i second:
how long and why are you buying her a car is she is so picky? if it comes into contact with your credit and money, then you should have a say in what it is. also, are unrealistic expectations something you are ready to live with for the rest of your life?

Bad news all around.

1) If you are going to be paying for the car, you should have *significant* say into what you're buying. On the other hand, if it's just her money on the line, there's no need for her to listen to you, and she can buy what she wants.

2) If she can't qualify for the loan by herself, and needs you to co-sign, you WILL be paying for the car.

3) Built-in GPS is stupid as hell. Shave $300 off the price and buy an aftermarket unit if you have to. There are a ton of cars that will accept larger sized headunits.

4) I've seen several Saturn Ion Coupe Red Lines for like $8k with 70-80k. A non-Red Line is even cheaper, like $5-$6k. Even better, an older Saturn SC1 or SC2 (1997-2002) for $3k is pretty easy to find. Good girl car, good looks, decent performance (only 2400lbs) and cheap as hell.

Buy her a Geo Metro beater to drive for a year until she settles for something reasonable? :awe:

I know that feel bro, I spent 3 months looking for the perfect car with my better half...

All I can say is that this girl must be smoking hot for the OP is willing to go through this kind of grief and money to buy her a car. 🙂

I'd just get her a used yellow Mustang V6 or Miata with an auto transmission and be done with it... Or, you could look at getting her a used MINI. Just keep in mind that they're high maintenance... I know from experience.

Oh, and please take Suze Orman's advice... NEVER co-sign for ANYTHING with ANYONE unless you're willing and able to pay it off yourself.

LOL hahah

Good news though. Bought one tonight!!!

Got a 2008 Pontiac Solstice GXP convertible. It has only 25300 miles. A few options but not completely decked out. No navigation or back up camera, but I managed to get her to ignore that. It's yellow with a black top and she seems to love it. Car is a bit too small for me though, but I can just barely squeeze into it to drive it if need be.

Think I got a good deal for it with a clean carfax and auto check. Everything after TTL and fees was $15,834.05

The original asking price was $16,950 and the saleman didn't actually seem happy about what I talked him down to at all. No sir, I'm not paying a stupid window etching fee. It helps when you have cash in hand and it's the end of the month when making a purchase 🙂

Yah it was a bit higher than I was looking for in costs, but I feel better about her having a good car and one she loves as well. Speaking of wish she is giving me some special kisses as I am typing this out. Here's hoping she doesn't look up.

awesome car. those things are fuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!

someone here has/had a sky redline (same engine) that was up to like..4-500hp IIRC

Nice! I'd really like to drive one of those and see what they're like.

Solstices are nice to look at, but those things get horrifying gas mileage for what they are, and they're HEAVY.

Edit: Also, the blind spots can hide a 747. At least the one you guys got has some go. My dad's NA is pathetically slow.

LOL technically my fiancee that lives with me.

and yes all the above posters comments are pretty much why I'm frustrated at this point. I see a nice car with nice options and mileage and she doesn't want it.

my daughter tried to get all picky when i was getting her a car to drive. i told her to ride the bus for a few weeks and rethink her needs as a driver. she now drives the civic hatchback i bought and loves it.

2004 350HP Pontiac GTO

This is exactly what popped into my head.

Oops, didn't see that you got a Solstice. They are good cars, I used to work at a Saturn dealership and I had a blast driving the Sky (same car basically). Congrats!
