Buying A new pc

Hey, im buying this pc from www.ncix.com (canada) soon and i would like to know if this computer would be able to run all of the latest games on highest settings and screen mode. and is there anything that schould be changed. Also would it be better for games if i went for a 4000+ rather than the 4400+ x2,

Welcome to AT.

Yea, that system will play any game out on pretty much any settings you want.
A couple of comments:
I think you can get a better PSU than the Modstream. If you really want modular, then I think the Enermax Liberty would be a better choice.
If you plan to OC, go with an Opteron 170 or 175.
Also, you can save some money by not getting a SLI board. By the time you need a second GTX, there will likely be single cards available that are faster than dual GTX's, but for less money.

yeah, im looking into a diffrent ps because i havent heard to many good things abou that one, and i guess ur right about SLI.
any other comments? what about changing to a 4000+ instead?

umm ive never built a pc before and i wouldent even know were to start, so for $50 i can stay on the safe side

Since you can afford it, stick with dual-core. Do they have S939 Opterons available there?

but would a 4000+ get higher frame rates than a 4400x2 in online games like BF2?

yes, unless you overclock the 4400, which would be a really good idea. but, the 4400 is more future proof, because pretty soon games will use both cores, so the 4400 will beat the 4000 in games.

Depends on your video settings, but realistically the difference would be minimal and unnoticeable except in benchmarks.

I'd go with X2 3800+ and overclock. Also I'd save some $ and get 7800GT instead of GTX. I am not too fond of the SLI motherboard unless you can buy the 2 cards right away or the price difference is small. I'd go for DFI Ultra-D boards since they overclock better.

I'd go with Enermax All In One 535W - and no MIR
- this is a powerhouse: with 18A x 2 on 12V rails, this crushes the 28A rating on the OCZ. I'd 2nd the forton as well, but I think the Enermax is still better.
EVGA OC 7800GT (copper heatsink)- $390 = serious savings vs. 7800GTX that isnt that much faster
DFI LANParty UT NF4 ULTRA-D - $160 - if you decide not to go SLI

I like that you went with inexpensive ram, but it's $245 after MIR. I think you'll pay taxes before that price. You could pick up 1 gig Samsung PC3200 sticks for $108 a piece, save some on taxes and the rebate hassle.

For the hard drive, go with SATA, not IDE. You can get your Seagate in SATA format for almost the same price. Personally, i'd sacrifice 50 gigs and get Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB This hard drive should be much faster due to its 16mb cache.

If anything you should get X2 3800+ or Opteron 165 if you are advanterous , keep the Asus board you have (or get DFI SLI). With the savings from GTX and slightly cheaper ram, and a cheaper cpu, you can squeeze a 2nd 7800GT. With a stronger PSU, you should be getting 50% greater performance from what you initially started with and that Opteron will fly if you spend some time in the overclocking section on this forum.

Review - matches Thermaltake Typhoon and Zalman 9500, but costs less than both. Bottom fins will help direct airflow towards the motherboard to keep it cool.

I've got a 4000+ with 2GB OCZ plat, with a 7800gtx and I assure you it can run just about anything out there with no problems at all.

I play BF2 at 1920x1440(best my monitor can do) and I get 60+ FPS with everything put as high as it can go. I'm also usually the 1st or 2nd person in the game after a new map load.

I may still just get a GT but i want to play the best games with the highest settings so the gtx may come in handy. and for memory, im pretty sure this memory is better than samsung

Unfortunately nothing is 100% future proof. With R580 and G71 coming out jan/feb, your graphics card will not be top of the line anymore just like most things. Also you can't play COD2 and FEAR with everything maxed out even with 7800GTX. But at least this way you got a much better PSU imo, a better overclocking board that has better audio for performance. Your cpu will definately be good for another 2 years at least. I dont see ram usage exceeding 2 gigs for a while either. So you should be good with just upgrading the videocard. Enjoy - its a fast rig

Just so you know building a PC is Very easy, its cheaper, and everything is writen in manuals the Case manual tells you how to install the mobo, CD rom drives, HD and Power supply, the mobo manual tells you how to do everything els and all the cabels are labeld for you so its just as easy as folowing the instructions, like lego's and im only 15 and my first build was a breze i had some software issues but thats besides the point

One thing I would like to suggest is NCIX is pretty expensive although they have some smily technician and sales. Have you tried Canadacomputers or other store?
