Nec or Lite-on for the dvd burner. Corsair value or other value RAM. If you can afford it, go for the 3200+, if you won't be overclocking, it's faster, If you will be overclocking, you have a 10X multiplier. Look for an Antec case. If you won't be gaming, don't waste your money on a SLI motherboard, get something like this.

Welcome to the forums!!!

i dont think you need a SLI board if you wont be playing games. nForce 4 Ultra is more than sufficient and will save you a decent amount.

Check out anandtech's DVD burner comparison page. BenQ comes out on top. Case? Antec Sonata II (Comes with Smartpower II 450W).
Motherboard? If you want reliability check out the EPoX 9NPA+Ultra. At 106 it's a steal. A8N-SLI Deluxe will cause many many problems and give you a headache - if you like the ASUS look at the Premium edition. It's the same thing as the Deluxe, except it's much more reliable and quieter (the Deluxe has a loud fan on it)

Wait a freaking second.... >O! Why didn't I notice this before?

buying a new Pc under $500 in India.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+(venice) or AMD Athlon64 3000+(Venice) <-- $150
Asus A8N-SLI-Deluxe <-- $150
Hynix 512MB DDR RAM <-- $50 (?)
Seagate 120GB SATA hard drive. <-- $60
LG or Sony DVD rewriter <-- $50
That already totals to $460...

Good luck finding a case, power supply, graphics card, and a floppy for under $40.

Sounds like you might have to opt for socket 754.

Either that or the prices are super cheap there

Btw how are those prices in india? I was there for a few months. You gotta love the prices there, we went to a 5-star restaurant for 6000Rs....which is only $120 (5-star.....for $120....6 people....that is CHEAP compared to US prices).

Now I understand why you didn't want the EPoX board, most liekly not available in india. ASUS, Gigabyte, Soltek (they've grabbed a fairly sizable share of the Asian markets), and MSI are availble there I'm sure.

So if you're going ASUS: A8N-SLI Premium as I said. You don't want the problems that the Deluxe has.

Now I know for a fact that BenQ is available in india. Hell I saw a bunch of BenQ offices there when I went to Chennai -> I'd get a BenQ burner, and change your ram to Corsair ValueSelect.

thanks guys,
I think i should update the budget to $600.
Only then i can get this system.
I dont want any overclocking.
what do u think about other MBos like MSI or GigaByte.
i dont want to upgrade this Pc for another 3 yrs.
if i am going for an intel version what would be the cost ?
