Buying a new monitor which would you choose?

I have the money for either or both but I'm a cheap SOB which should I buy and why.

19" Viewsonic GS790-2 $325.00

17" Viewsonic VE170 $659.00

17" NEC LCD1700V $649.00

I will buy it this week for sure.

Edit: It will be used for playing games and web surfing. does that change anything?
 
if you want to go for crt , i think the Dell 19" trinitron is the best. it is available for around 340$ with free shipping, itis available in black also. it is a terrific monitor, if you want to go for LCD then i dont know much abt it but i heard somewhere that KDS has a monitor that gives the best bang to the buck.
 
Well I think you guys might have saved me some money. While I just love the LCD's the 19" Viewsonic PF790 can be had local to me for $379= tax.

for my next monitior i want to buy it local........so i can see how it works and be able to take it home and if it dont work with my eyesight i would be able to return it easily enough

Go for the NEC LCD. It has better luminance, contrast ratio, dot pitch, and rise/fall times than the Viewsonic. If you can afford the LCD, I would STRONGLY recommend it over the CRT if you value your eyesight. I can work on my LCD for hours on end with no problems, but by the end of my shift of staring at the CRT's at work, my eyes burn.

The $649 is the same after rebate price that Fry's is offering from a PC store in Scaramento. The NEC was the one I liked the most. I have a Toshiba laptop with a killer 14.1 TFT display that I like alot. I will be playing games and a little surfing you still think it is the right choice.
 
I have the GS790 and I love it. It's great for everything from gaming to surfing. I especially like that it doesn't take up a huge amount of desk space (it has the depth of a 17" monitor) I got it through dell.com w/ a coupon code and a 10% off monitors deal. It came out to $286 shipped. I don't know if the deal is still on (I got this for Christmas) but you can try doing a search. My friend has this monitor as well and he likes his.
 
i have the monitor Kosmickarama is talking about and i love it, great monitor, i got it for $240 shipped, but that was bc dell F'd up shipping me my system
 
None of the above... get a Hitachi... I've never seen a Viewsonic that was as good as some of the better brands. Illiyamas are good too.
