Buying a new Mazda RX-8

RossMAN

Grand Nagus
This isn't for me, it's for a friend who is selling his WRX to buy a new Mazda RX-8.

What's a good price?

The loss leader ads this weekend are going to be INCREDIBLE but I wanna see what you guys think first.

Damn they're cheaper than I thought, Edmunds.com pricing.

I shot for 28k for a 03 s2k and got a bite. Too bad I want the 04...🙂....I love fscking with car dealers also.

Oh and insurance is cheaper in a mazda than it is in an STi.

I've been fscked by a car dealership once and it hurt.

Now it's payback time.

How will you go about this? What do you know that they don't?

didn't the rx-8 get recalled some time ago? anyone know what was the problem?
Not sure about a recall, but the horsepower was overated and they offered free service or they'd buy back the cars in some cases. It's not likely to feel terribly faster than a WRX, especially off the line. I wouldn't bother upgrading a WRX to an RX8 personally.

I would be shocked if you got a RX-8 for that cheap. My friend just got one for about $31,000. Maybe his was fully loaded but even then I cannot imagine that would add that much to the price.

My local dealer had stickers from 27-34kish depending on options in them. You can add quite a freaking lot with the options!

Ross, did you see today's paper? On page C30, there is an ad for Murray Mazda/Chevy on Powell that says $49 over invoice on ALL in-stock Chevys and Mazda (except the SSR).

They might not have many RX-8s in stock, but if they don't have what your friend wants you could certainly use their ad as a bargaining tool with other dealerships.

Thanks for the tip, I haven't seen today's Oregonian yet. On weekdays I prefer reading the more current Street Final (afternoon updated) edition.

I will pick up a paper after meeting the wife for lunch though.

$49 over invoice sounds good, do you know it TTL is included?

I basically rented my 98 Civic for just over a year for only $200 plus the cost of oil and filters when I traded it in for my truck 😀 It is fun to play with the "sharks" 😉

That's what I would love to do with our Accord and either buy a newer Accord or a Toyota Highlander.

How did you sell it?

Newspaper?

Autotrader.com?

Those RX8's are some ugly cars, but looks are subjective.

I had an RX7 and it was a blast.... one of the best cars I ever had.

WHY? :Q

WRX is a faster car than the RX8.

Fsck if I know.

I would personally keep the WRX wagon, it looks great (silver turbo).

Maybe he wants something smaller, faster, newer, who knows.

Thats weird... why would you "upgrade" to a car thats slower, cant hold as much, and doesnt handle as well?

Now thats a fanboy if i've EVER heard one. LOL 😀

Uh, right. RX-8 is lighter, has better acceleration, and a better front-to-rear weight ratio. WRX has awd of course, but does it outhandle the RX-8? Nah. btw this IS the wagon that Rossman's friend has.
