Im on a budget of about $800-$900. I already have a video card (g4 ti4200), a sound card (turtel beach) and speakers. I need everything else though.

Heres what im wanting... atleast 1gig of ram, and around 2ghz. I dunno what mobo is the best and I was thinking of just getting this case...

http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage...25-05.JPG/11-129-125-06.jpg/11-129-125-07.jpg

Anyways, post what you all suggest, and thanks in advance.

btw: you dont need to work a monitor in that price.

-- EDIT ---

Alright, I want AMD, NOT pentium... I play lots of games and do web design.

You're going to need to be more specific about what you plan on doing because that is an open question. For every brand there is someone who likes it, so you'll probably get everything recommended to you (if people would take the time) but not find what would suit you the best.

Do you play games, do graphic design, ... ?

XP2100 Tbred B-$93
Epox 8RDA+ $99
SK7 + 80MM Fan-$30
Samsung PC2700 512MB x 2 $150
WD80GB SE-$110
Lite-On 16xdvd-$35
Lite-On 52xCDRW-$50

total = $567

You can pick everything up at newegg.com and the HSF is from svc.com. This system should overclock easily depending on your stepping and how far the ram can go.

Hey Kartajan, can you work 1 gig of ram into that? (I play 2 camelot accounts on the same computer, needs minimum of 512 ram) And also, will I need to buy a fan? or is that all that I will need?

A few questions...

How good of sound do you want? 2 speakers enough or 4 or 6?

Are you going to Overclock....?

How hot is your room in C?

Do you have a color preference? I liked the Antec 660 AWG.

This is a nice cooler but not for a 2400+.

That's a second computer? What is your first computer? lol

Anyway...

Here's one I recently assembled and it looks cool and is fast...I'm modifying it for you.

ANTEC Model# 660 AWG w/330W TRUE POWER - cool color metallic grey. I saw it for $90 over on hot deals forum. I paid $100 at newegg.

LITE-ON 16X DVD ROM Drive - OEM- BLACK...actually I used a toshiba but the lite-on is fine

SONY 1.44MB 3.5 INCH INTERNAL FDD DRIVE - OEM - BLACK...Samsung in Black is OK if they are out of Sonys...avoid mitsumi (noisey...

THE 80 gig WD SE w/8mb cache or a 80 GB Maxtor w/8MB cache

Memorex mx2750 keyboard sliver/black try outpost.com or compusa

Logitech mx300 or mx500 mouse in silver/black most everyone has them

Either one of these motherboards depending if you need the extra goodies.

Thermalright SLK-800-U heatsink...bolt on. try svc.com or newegg.

80mm fan, 3 lead for the heatsink.

Artic silver 3

(2) Samsung Original DDR400 PC-3200 512MB - OEM Version ---yeah baby...you don'yt need it but why not get the fast stuff.

AMD ATHLON XP 2400 /266 FSB PROCESSOR CPU- OEM or a 2100 and OC it via 166 mhz bus

Liteon BLACK CDRW 48x or 52x...newegg has some

---------------------

Sorry about that, I just built you a dream machine...lol

If you go with what you had just get a better heatsink and get the HD with 8 mb cache.
That won't up you too much...

You can save some on that 835 Antec case at Best Buy if they have them they are $55

Good luck

from my original list:
change memory to 2 of these:
Item: N82E16820145401 Model# CMX512-2700C2
Rating: (avg rating out of 43 voters) Shipping: Special Free FedEx Saver Shipping
Price: $101.00 Stock: YES

Fan comes with RETAIL BOX processors.

puts you to about $800 w/ shipping.

** I only use brands that I trust, so some items are cheaper than what I put out.
And I like to combine some things to save room (for cooling and space purposes.)
** note the case which is delayed AGAIN...
