I actually don't like the mustangs too much .. although the exterior is nice, I've been in one of the new ones before and it's kind of awkward inside.

I'm not totally discounting used cars, but would prefer new. I just want something that looks cool (subjective I know, but suffice it to say most <$50k sports coupes look "cool") and is decently fast.

If you are really interested in Charger, get used one for a lot less and save money.

Otherwise, there are too many choices for 25k, new Accord V6, new Mazda V6, new Altima V6, new Legacy, 1 year old TSX, 2 year old TL, 1 year old G35 (new gen), 2 year old 325i, etc.

Most asians do hate American cars.

Well, that's quite racism, but can't deny for myself :p The biggest reason, which I and most (if not all) friends agree, is American favored styling (especially interior) looks awful to us. With the exception of really few (ie. 5th gen Mustang (NEVER 4th gen), Viper, recent Ford styling, which is quite European style), most of us hate its styling.

Anyway, back to OP, even if you don't like used one, I suggest you to check out. Especially 1~2 year old used ones from near-luxury/luxury brand like BMW, Acura or Infiniti, come with quite good extended warranty. If you still prefer, look into what I and others have suggested.

If he wants a Charger let him get a Charger. A Charger is all about image, nothing else.

Wow, didn't know the ethnic Asian population dominates the US.

ditto. just bought a 08 G8 GT for $29k employee priced. can get the v6 for 26-27 but why? mileage is identical in the city and highway is one more mpg than the v8. can seat 5, 4 door, 6.0 v8, looks great, faster and better mileage than the charger.

1 series = badge branded overpriced garbage. Get a used M3 for the same price instead.

my reason for not getting a used car is that I have no idea of knowing how it was driven with no way to find out. I'm driving a civic right now that just hit 100k and it's going strong. I don't have a necessity to get a brand new vehicle right now, I just want to get one soon and an upgrade at that. buying used seems a little counterintuitive to me.

You can get into a new '08 Maxima for around 23k.

Decent amount of car, power, and bells & whistles for the money.

Brand new BMW coupe for a little over 25k ... that doesn't seem bad and it looks pretty awesome. What are your thoughts on this?

1 series is not bad at all, especially if you put 4 year free maintenance into calculation. It looks like it's overpriced currently since 1 series doesn't have direct comparison, so we can't say for sure if it's overpriced or not until other manufacturers introduce similar models.

You could easily get a 350Z for $25k.

You're not going to get a Ferrari/GT-R/Veyron/Lambo or any of those $50k+ cars you're looking at for $25k no matter how hard you look.

Find a car you love that you can afford and get it. Spend some time test driving real cars in the real world that you can afford and stop reading glamor magazines. If you go about it like that and think any car under $50,000 isn't good you won't be happy with anything you buy.

Not trying to be a douche, but the whole "the only cars I like are over $50k" outlook isn't compatible with a $25k budget. Even at $25k, especially used, will get you a better car than 95% of whats out there unless you live in Miami or something. Go look at some of the cars that have been mentioned in person and drive them :)

Id say go with your instinct if you like the Charger, just get used and get a R/T.

here's another question .. there's MSRP and Invoice price on Edmunds. Which should I expect to pay and how much can I knock off? Also, how much could you get dropped off if you came in with say 50% of price in cash?

What about a used RX-8? That's what I think of when I think of a fun car. From what I've read, the back seat is roomier than you'd think. I agree with a lot of the other recommendations too: Legacy GT, Altima/Maxima, and G35 especially.

BTW, just to put the (lack of) speed of the SXT Charger into perspective, it goes 0-60 just a hair slower (.1 s) than my Mazda Tribute SUV. It probably doesn't corner as well either. I won't argue with the looks, because some people really like them. But for performance and fun, I just don't think the Charger is where it's at.

I like the Charger- Car has personality unlike the Accord & Camry which are bland driving machines and have ugly lines.

Since you want a useful trunk and decent rear space - scratch off most every suggestion on this board.

Other cars I would look at:
Pontiac G8 V6 - 260HP 5spd Auto and roomy RWD as well

Ford Taurus or Sable- not exactly sporty but a big car and lots of luxury features at a ridiculously cheap price. MPG is pretty good as well with the 6spd auto and 260HP V6. Largest rear seat and roomiest trunk of all.

Come one guys, why even bring it up? You don't get a Charger to track it. It's a boat. You get the car to cruise in and the R/T is reasonably quick. There are more well rounded cars for the money but how many look as mean from the front?

It is. You can go up a whole trim level with the cost difference in most cases (eg: SXT to R/T or R/T to SRT8)

I don't know about that. Usually I would agree but right now car companies are desperate to move cars. Right now if you're financing you can get better deals on new than used. 0% financing can bring your payments way down. I was considering a Mazda 6 a while ago. I could get the same car for the same payments. The difference was one was a bit over a year old and one was new. It was pretty clear that new was the way to go.

What does 0% financing mean?

Also, from my previous post: here's another question .. there's MSRP and Invoice price on Edmunds. Which should I expect to pay and how much can I knock off? Also, how much could you get dropped off if you came in with say 50% of price in cash?

0% financing = 0% interest on the borrowed amount, meaning you pay back the amount you borrowed and that's it.

MSRP = MSRP, what the car shoudl cost you, in theory.

invoice = how much you're actually going to pay at the dealer (includes any dealer markups, adjustments to price to account for borrowing, etc.)

MSRP is the manufacturer's suggested retail price, or the sticker price. Invoice is the price that the car was sold to the dealer by the manufacturer. Both prices are before rebates or cash back, so make sure to look for rebates on the car, too. Chrysler loves rebates.

Dealers don't like cash deals because they then don't make as much money with financing since there wouldn't be interest.
