The new Camaro might be out by the time you are ready to buy and should start around $20k. I would keep an eye out for it.

Ok so ... 0% financing means I'm basically paying 100% principal on the car up to the cost of the car, right?

And invoice is about the price I should expect to pay?

Also, why do dealers not like cash deals if they're offering 0% financing? Since they're not getting any interest, wouldn't it be better for them to get cash up front?

I always thought cash was a better option because it would get you a better deal. I'm confused.

1) Dealers like cash just fine. Especially in today's market where a huge % of their financing apps are getting denied and they are losing potential sales.

2) You will definitely get a lower price paying cash than if you did the 0% financing. They work the cost of the 0% financing into the price in the negotiations. It's all part of the number tricks they play to get you to buy a car.

3) Carefully go over what you are paying for the car. A lot of times the interest you will pay on a ~5% loan with your CU will be less than the extra they charge for the 0% financing promo.

With a little looking, you can get an 05 GTO for ~16,5.

Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent value for the power you get, but the total cost of ownership for these things is high. Sucking down premium gas at ~14 mpg around town is going to add up fast.

For that price, you may want to go for an Impala. It'll give you all the room you would expect out of an American sedan, but at the same time it is a really good ride with great power and comfort.

If you really want to buy a Chevy sedan there's no reason not to go for the newly redesigned Malibu. You could probably get a LTZ 4cyl for 25k otd right now.

I have a previous gen. Malibu (05), you will want a 6 with this size car. Put 4 folks in a 4 banger, run the AC and go on the nearest on ramp and that 4 banger will seem like a bad idea..

did some more reading and I think I'm going to test drive a 128i. Can't really find much about the 09 camaro, looks like they're keeping it hush hush?

I just read the following this morning: "...the long-awaited return of the Camaro is coming soon, but is expected to be sold as a 2010 model." Source

I'm going to be looking around for a while. The new Accord coupes also don't look to shabby. It's a shame the front of Altima coupes looks like crap ... I really like the back.

I test drove a '09 Malibu 2LT four-cylinder with the new six-speed automatic two weekends ago and it performed well under the circumstances that you described. I was able to merge onto the highway just fine. I wished the transmission was a bit more responsive, but it wasn't too bad at all. It's definitely a huge improvement over its predecessor, but it's hardly class leading in every aspect.
