Buying a gun: AR-15 or AK47?

I don't see why it is scary. These are the most tightly regulated licenses outside of those who deal in NFA weapons.

Sorry, but that actually confused me as well. Your Dad was on the bench? He was scared for his family and that is why he got the 'concealed' license? Just trying to clraify.

Ok, we were all in a sporting goods store inside the mall. He was waiting outside the shop on a bench. There was a guy that started shooting for some reason inside the mall and was about 25 yards away from my dad. This is why my dad took the course for a concealed handgun license incase he was in the same type of situation.

If you aren't into guns as a hobby, then I would just get the AK. If you feel like spending some money, then get an AR-15 with a red dot scope like and Aimpoint or Eotech.

I own an AR-15, and it's favorite gun. If things ever go Katrina where I live, the AR-15 is the gun I'm going to be walking around with. For someone trying to break in my house, the shotgun would be my first choice, but if I didn't have time to get it, I would use a pistol. Pistols are good for concealed carry, but they shouldn't be the only type of gun someone owns.

I just noticed that you said you live in New York. New York still has the "assault weapons ban". Your only option is going to be a crippled gun that can't hold more than 10 rounds. Don't worry though, your local police still have all the cool weapons and since there is a ban, you can be sure that no criminals will have real weapons. You are lucky that you have that law to protect you. 🙂

I'm a fan of bolt action rifles myself...although I presently do not own a single gun.

A casual friend of mine has an arsenal legal and (now) illegal guns... although I think he is legally allowed to have them (not sure).

I've fired an M-14 which I loved...my favorite among assault rifles. I actually have not fired an AK-47 but I'm told the groups are horrible at even 100 yards

But for clean accuracy my friend stands by just about anything that Sako makes...and from my limited experience I'd have to concur.

I always thought you had to get a federal license to own an full-automatic firearm? I know it's like that here in NC. Is it different in your state?

From my understanding, m4 is a machine gun created after 1986 hence is illegal to own...
