Buying a GameCube today...which games to get?

Hey everyone! I currently own a Xbox (solely for Halo and to sub as a HTPC-type movie/video playback system). Anyways, the Holiday Bundle GameCube looks to be a great buy, as I love Mario games. I've gotten really sick of the Halo parties we have...everyone leaves pissed because they think they got teamed with a bad person or whatever and that someone was a weak link, blah blah. Tired of that. Period.

Anyways, I wanna bring back the fun of Mario into my house and I'll of course be getting the Mario Kart double dash with the system, but what other games should I get right away? I love the Pikmin series...Super Monkey Ball, too...Has anyone played Monkey Ball 2? Pikmin 2? How are they?

What about Paper Mario? I hear that is really fun, too. I'll definitely get Smash Bros as well and probably Mario Sunshine. Is the Mario party any good? I have Fusion Frenzy for Xbox already and will definitely get the Super Monkey Ball games...so is Mario Party 6 worth the cash?

Input appreciated!

Thanks!

i have an old gamecube ( 3 years i think )

first game was SSB:melee . . . REALLY FUN GAME

I don't think Mario Party 6 is worth the cash . . . just get 4 or 5

I figured I can probably skip the Mario Party ones because I'll get Super Monkey Ball 2. Is #2 like #1 at all? I have only played the first.

Defenitely take a look at the Metroid series. Excellent games. Also pickup Mario Golf. It's quite fun.

I just read a review about Pikmin 2...apparently there's no more time limit, which is something that annoyed me greatly about the first. I'll skip the purchase of Pikmin 1 then. 😉

Metroid Prime rocks
SSBM is the ultimate party game
Monkey Star Supreme or whatever the hell it's called (it's late, i'm tired) is hard as hell. It's a fun game to play with friends because everyone gets pissed because the game is so difficult, lol.

Frankly, I'm old-fashioned; none of the 3D Mario games seem like Mario to me.

Haven't played Mario Party 6, but 4 and 5 provide some good multiplayer fun.

Some other games to check out.

Zelda Wind Waker
Mario Sunshine
Metroid Prime (1 and 2)
Mario Kart (comes with system)
Smash Bros Melee
WWE Day of Reckoning
Animal Crossing
Paper Mario
F-Zero

Does Mario Golf compare to any of the mini games inside Super Monkey Ball 1 or 2?

Agreed x Pi

Hmm, perhaps I will rent the Mario ones before I buy them. The last Mario I played was Super Mario World for SNES...😛

However, Paper Mario does have rave reviews.

Same here. Mario 64 was passable, but it wasn't really Mario.

Then again, I'd rather have super-sharp 2D for games like Final Fantasy, Metroid, Mario, and Castlevania than 3D.

I wouldn't mind another 2D Mario, but the 3D ones are ok.

Super Mario 3, and Super Mario World were the best.

you played the best one there is, hands down.

Mario 3 is good, but wow, thinking about SMW makes me want to dig out my SNES 😀

While you're at it, get out the ol' Super Bomberman cartridge. 😉 I <3 that game!

Never got into that, but Megaman X makes me want to be 12 again

What really burns me up is that in Smash Bros. Melee, there's a mini-game that is effectively a 2D platformer Mario game using 3D graphics. If you love me Nintendo, I want that in a full game, one for the GameCube, one for the DS.😱
