Buying a G35.. Automatic...

In my quest for a car the G35 has been at the top of my short list.

I have a pretty rough commute - 45 miles each way, about half of the time it's 30-45 mph traffic..

I have a 5 speed ranger, most of my vehicles have been manuals. This is the first time I just want to get an auto and be done with it.. But I've not driven a 'newer' auto, only the late 90's and earlier slushboxes..

Thoughts? I also ride supersport motorcycles, so I'm not going to be doing any trackdays in the car.. Just commuting, daily driver, occasional mtn run..

I really enjoy the 6MT and I went with that over the 5AT but the auto transmission is smooth and fast. The 6MT is really only for the fun-factor and if you're looking to upgrade, IMO.

Yeah I'm not going to be doing many (if any) mods to the car... Maybe a strut brace if it doesn't have one, that's it though. No suspension or major engine mods..

What are the thoughts on color? I like the white, but haven't seen a white car with dark or gray interior and I don't like the beige..

I like black but oh the scratches...

I like the dark gray but 'everyone' has one. Looking at my work parking lot I see two dark gray G35's.

Silver is too bland, red is a bit too attention whorish..

If you can't find manual I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If the price gap is high I wouldn't bother either.

You'd rather get punched in the dick than daily drive an auto? Awesome. One day you're going to regret saying those words because I'll be punching your dick when that happens.
lulz.

As much as I like to pretend otherwise, I think there will come a time for even the most die hard manual enthusiasts will have to give it up for an auto.

Unless you can unequivocally say that you'll never have a bad back or hip that would make it difficult or impossible to drive.

i just don't like the lack of control with an auto, and the 'MPG' shift strategies in a lot of newer cars are friggin' awful.

i don't see why i would lose the comfortable use of my left leg and not my right. i'm not talking about driving racecars here.

I'm all about that - but I've seen a lot of my dad's friends start ditching their manuals around ~55-60 just because it's a real burden when you get to be an old fart - even if you're not driving a Porsche.

Drive both and see what you prefer. I drove the 6MT and wasn't too fond of it.. and got the 5AT because it was more practical for my commuting purposes (Bay Area traffic is horrible) and a bit cheaper. I do stick it in manual mode more than auto mode though.

Old <> Lazy

I understand health issues, but if you aren't healthy enough to drive a manual, it's likely you shouldn't behind the wheel.

My last car was a MT sedan, loved it; wouldn't trade a MT for AT or CVT ever.

With luxury cars, it's not nearly as big a difference as it is with economy cars.

The 4-speed autos (and the old 3-speeds .. *shudder*) on cheaper cars are pretty crappy overall. A 5-speed manual makes a world of difference, particularly if the car is down on power anyway.

With a 5-speed auto and a stout V6, it's not as big a difference. I'd prefer 6MT, but the 5AT in the G is nothing to complain about.

I don't care what people drive. Auto or Manual. I only drive manual but could care less what other people drive. Just like I could care less if someone likes Budweiser. Do what you like.

Eh it's seeking others opinions. I'm going to do what I want, but hearing from people that own the 6mt who are fine with driving it in traffic is a good thing to know.

Maybe it has a horrible auto transmission and finding that out is enough to sway me?

Take your trolling elsewhere. You obviously have nothing constructive to say.

Thanks to everyone else!
