There are plenty of strong examples like that which suggest Microsoft is dead serious about taking over the console biz. And it seems to be working too. hehe. The PS2 is a joke.

Yes, lets all listen to this guys. He is so well informed and not biased at all.

Nintendo has no intentions of going out of the hardware business. Seeing as they are making profit on every Gamecube sold still, are putting out their strongest line up yet (Mario, StarFox, Metroid, Mario Party 4, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle, Zelda, etc).. which you may or may not like, I dont' really care but thoguht of the strongest to most gamers. Seeing as the Gameboy Advance has the most sales out of the GCN, X-Box, PS2, or any other system of the past. Rare has been producing very little games for Nintendo, and in a business standpoint (not a gamers standpoint) it wasn't worht it to Nintendo.

PS2 a joke?! Lol. Is that why it rules the top selling games every month? Is that why it the most owned system? God, what an idiot X-Box fanboy you are. PS2 has the biggest game library, and is selling strong.

Oh I'm sure the X-Box isn't going anywhere. Microsoft has put in lots of investment with it. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any system as long you pick the one that has the games you want to play.

Im curious to see what Nintendo and Sony will do, if anything, in reaction to MS's Sega game holiday Xbox bundle.

XBOX is the system to get if your looking for sports games. XBOX will be around for YEARS to come. Microsoft is spending a billion on online play so its not going to be trashed anytime soon.

Ok, sorry to drag this on, but I have to ask....why do you say XBOX is better for sports games, just curious? It seems to me that most (at least the sega and ea series) are available on all the consoles...so, that's one of the things that caused me to post here in the first place,--

As for the rest of you, thanks so much for your help---I'm getting closer to buying an XBOX--the main things swaying me that way right now are that 1) No need to buy a memory card and 2) most people here seem to think XBOX is going to be around for several years and not do a Sega...

thanks again for the help!

An Xbox is probably best for sports because of its hard drive. On GameCube, you need a full memory card 251 to save seasons of games with stats. You need about 1/4 of a PS2 memory card for sports games. Xbox doesn't need one at all. Also, it has 4 controller ports, so more people can play than would be able to on a PS2 which only has 2.

Funny how I'm recommending an Xbox when I only have a GC and PS2. Sports games aren't a big deal for me, I play NCAA Football and NBA Live 2003. Nothing else on the Xbox interests me, not even Halo - I hate FPS games on the console.

I totally agree Grim...

Not to harp on the Saturn or anything but, I still play mine cuz of the import games, if fun regardless of graphics but I liked the import games... Dreamcast was nice too because you could burn games on a CD and the games were also fun. Its really too bad Sega didnt support them and was in a bad financial state. I personally dont own any of the new consoles (GC, Xbox, PS2). I know its gonna sound crazy but my roomie in college had an xbox and a friend of mine owned a ps2. From a graphical standpoint the Xbox looks the best cuz of the hardware. I personally dont think its that much above the ps2, to me the most notably difference is the anti aliasing, there are less jaggyness on the models on the xbox than the ps2. I dont like the Xbox because it doesnt have a lot of great games, and the Microsoft way of doing business sucks, they're trying to buy out game company after game company. Granted Xbox looks great (ie Halo and the sports games maybe some others Im forgetting), the box is huge itself, the regular controller that comes with it I find kind of chunky, I prefer the S-Controller, I believe you can burn some games on cd but the others u need dvd to run them you need a mod chip anyway, the decision is up to you. PS2 has a ton of games, doesnt look as good as xbox, controllers are fine, you can burn some games on cd, the big ones you need a dvd like tekken 4. The gamecube looks to me on the level of the ps2 maybe better, its got fun games, the library is not as violence/blood oriented but the games are creatively made so you have fun playing them. GL with whatever console u choose but make sure you dont have any regrets. Its a lot of $$$

I personally prefer XBOX. I'm just waiting for XBOX to come out with a racing game like Gran Turismo where I can literally play with my car. That, and an RPG. Other hten that, I think XBOX beats PS2 in sports games, fighting games, the HD, and internet play. If you don't like the remote, then just get the original and buy the japanese controller.

last system i bought was the SNES, i then got a PC & thereafter played nothing but PC games
... however, PC gaming is now boring (at least to me); so now I own an XBOX & love it:)

If you really want to avoid another Saturn situation the best bet is a Playstation as it has the largest user base by a huge margin which ensures continued quality software support.

<<Are the PS2's graphics really that bad compared to XBOX? How do they compare to PC?>>

Nah... they're not that bad. No question the XBox graphics are the best, but often they're exagerrated when compared to PS2. If XBox scores a 10, I'd say PS2 gets an 8. It can stack up to PC's graphics too, since basically what you're seeing on the XBox is GeForce4 quality.

Sega GT2k2 is not anywhere near as customizable as GT3, but its the same basic concept. You can do weight reduction, bolt-on turbo, NAWWWSSSS, etc. Of course you have to live with fewer cars, fewer tracks, etc., but its better than nothing (*ahem* GAMECUBE!!!)

Yep PS2 graphics still look pretty sweet and it has about 3x the number of A+ quality titles.
