Anyone ever bought a cell phone through Amazon? What was your experience?

I'm on Verizon, and intend to stay on Verizon. I'm looking to take the dive into the waters of smartphone goodness. I plan on picking up a Droid for myself and probably a Eris for SO. Right now I get a discounted rate through my employer. The price for those phones is the cheapest I've seen anywhere but I'm worried about swapping my plans around, keeping my number and still getting my discounted rate when all is said and done. Anyone gone through all this with Amazon?

I've bought new, unlocked GSM phones on Amazon. Didn't have any problems. Stuck my sim card in it and started using it.

But I've never used Verizon.

If you buy on contract they have an additional ETF if you leave early. I think it lasts for six months or so.

This is correct. And the fee is pretty steep. But if that isn't a concern, then it's a great experience.

I got my Droid from them. I kept my same plan but extended my contract on a secondary phone in a family plan. It was painless.
