Buying a car...

Yes, get a gently used Civic EX. They are much higher quality than the cars you mentioned, and you should be able to get one for around $13,000 if you look hard. Mileage is of little importance on these cars, any well treated Honda under 75K still has many years ahead of it.

flabbergasted, I thought it was national, but I know that the VW dealers around here offer a 5 year(from manf. date) or 50,000 mile warranty on all pre-certified VW's.

So - if you get a '98 VW, you'd still have 3 years, or up to 50,000 miles on the warranty. I believe that the 10/100,000 mile on powertrain was still applicable as well. Not bad.

I thought this was a national, but it could be regional.

I think you can find a good used LS1 Z28 98 model for about that. Or a 96 or 97. Whatever floats your boat 🙂

Definitly check the Accord V-6 out, higher quality than the Civic or any other car you mentioned. And you can find one within your price range with low milage.

I need to know what type of car you want! Many, many options in the used market for this price. Don't give me the "I don't buy used" line of BS. Tons of great used cars out there.

First of all, with the $15K limit you can kiss off the idea of getting a new car. Getting a new is a rip off anyways. Most cars have a 10-20+% depreciation once you drive off the lot.

Look at used German and Japanese cars in the 90-98 year range. Forget American cars unless it is a Lincoln Mark VII, Lincoln LS, Cadillac Eldorado ETC, or Cadillac Seville STS. I would personally suggest looking into early 90's 5- or 7-series BMWs. This is of course assuming you are into the sedan thing.

If you are looking for pure sport, there are many options.

Where would I look up prices on the used cars? I wanna browse around for a bit before I go down to the dealer. Slightly used german car sounds great.

I think the latest model Honda Prelude would do very nice. If your looking more sport how about a Mustang GT, or Camaro SS, or Mazda Turbo RX7. There are tons of good cars in the price range you've set...

edit I am talking used vehicles. Let someone else take the initial depreciation.

Good places to look for car info whould be Car Point or Carfax and the like.

I generally try to buy from private parties rather than dealers. You generally get a better deal and get first had problem reports from the owner. If you are less mechanically inclined, there are the certified pre-owned cars offered at dealers. The certified plans are available for Audi, Lexus, BMW, and others.
